'world reconciliation council'

Unread postby Teclo » Sun 26 Jun 2005, 14:02:25

if the meme concept works couldn't we inject the idea of a world reconciliation council into the collective consciousness which would then eventually have to be held?

the beauty of the this it becomes more of a good idea in proportion to how shit things get
The council would then work things out by true democracy

It could go on a long time of course!

What things exactly?
Without an army it would be pretty hard to enforce any changes.
Any democratic decisions made by all countries of the world would be one mean feat - even the European Union is having trouble at the moment.
Maybe we could arm them with lightsabers and make it a religion? :-D

Simple. Public protest

The USSR fell with 95% of its massive population safely indoors watching the events unfold on the news. Sure, the USSR was ripe for change but then so are we

The old paradigm is what you're talking about, the need for armies to enforce unpopular decisions. By definition via diplomacy there is no need for an army other than as a deterrent since changes are mutually agreed

OK, imagine this scenario:
The US economy collapses, China takes Taiwan, Isreal finds itself isolated an under attack threatens to nuke any invader, wars start up all over the place, food shortages, mass unemployment - fear and chaos everywhere

We will be at home watching it on TV, powerless - unless there's a worldwide mass demontration in every nation, 5% of the population that are not indoors demands a world council by the right of the majority to say 'stop'
If we merely demonstrate without demanding change the authoritities will play on it to their own ends. So we should demand they listen or step down

How stupid are we to let our leaders dictate our own death?
Its time we made our voice heard because obviously if we stopped fighting we could work things out in some global council expressly convened for that purpose

For the idea to work it would have to be a worldwide mass protest. 99.9% of people are not our leaders

Nice idea Teclo.

Have you read "The Age of Consent" by George Monbiot? He's thinking along the same lines as you.

Since most people aren't the "leaders," why can't the people just go ahead and do the right thing? Why spend this energy protesting? Why not just withdraw support from the status quo and do the right thing?

hmmm, one world government. Don't like the idea of a global president!. Would have to be decentralised somehow, the EU model I think is a good one, much better than national islands/tribes ;)

I like that, so it should be more like a 'this is what we're doing' gathering/protest to merely inform the authorities of how its going to be!

I certainly think we should be more audacious and bold in proportion to the ineptness of the global leadership. Look at Bob Geldoff the politicios' are all over him, nothing to stop us doing the same thing (maybe not the hair)
