I suggested the same thing but Six Strings claimed Mexicans in America would support such an attack.


Latinos in America are generally American, even if they don't have citizenship or legal status. A large chunk of our armed forces are actually mexican-american.

If the marines return to the "halls of montezuma," it will be young Mexican American marines.

And you know what? Right now Mexicans in Mexico are PROTESTING AND RIOTING AT MEXICAN ARMY BASES -- they blame the ARMY and government for it, because government and military is on the cartel payroll.

They would gladly welcome Mexican American US marines to sort this out.

There's nothing to argue about here, this thing has been brewing for a long time but it's just one of those topics not discussed on this forum but I've been aware of it. I'll say it again, if it gets so bad that the news in Texas looks just like the news in Mexico, then something must be done.

P.S. latinos in the US are actually pretty peaceful, they don't riot, there would never be a "rebellion." Only problem with latinos is a small percentage that do the gangbanging, and then the cartels.

The cartels terrorize peaceful mexicans in mexico, and now they're terrorizing peaceful mexicans -- and we gringos too -- in Texas. Americans won't put up with this crap, no way, send in the marines:

Sorry I got snippy with you SG. The cartels in Mexico are doing some of the same things ISIS does. We are already fighting a war on ISIS in the middle east, along with Australia.

The cartel terrorism is right on our border, in Mexico, and increasingly spreading into the US. ISIS is fought in Iraq, we may have to fight the cartels in Mexico -- and their cartel controlled government and military -- it may come to that.

We can't have kidnappings and beheadings in the USA whoever is doing it, we'll fight them all if we have to, we've done it before.

I have nothing against the US marines but I do have issues with the sentiments expressed.

I am coming up 73 and since WW2 I have not seen one situation made better in the long term by the application of US force.

They are not "your countries battles" and, for the most part, self centred bloody minded US ignorance and lack of understanding has only made things worse.

The drug cartels exist to supply North Americans with drugs. Also to bring money to the impoverished north that was ruined economically by NAFTA corn imports. How would our occupation change anything? You want 122.3 million addition dependents?


Pstarr, please don't start the noam chomsky "it's all corrupt and nothing can be done so you just do nothing and let the neighborhood go to crap" stuff with me.

Here is the situation in Mexico:

* DEA and some US military have worked with Mexican government before, in years past, to fight the cartels

* The problem we now have on our hands is that the cartels have so much infiltrated the government of mexico and its military, that going forward it may be impossible to work with them to fight the problem. Can you see how it makes it impossible? If the cartels have generals and officers and federal office holders and governors ON THEIR PAYROLL then anything the US tries to do down there, working with the mexican government, you'd just have a mexican general getting on the phone tipping off the other side the whole time.

* There have been articles talking about actual mexican military doing the work of the cartels. Some border agents have gotten shot at, some mexican military helicopters have crossed the border

* If things get bad enough, and I'm just saying it's headed there not that it is quite there yet, but eventually there will be no way to clean the situation up in mexico without a clean slate with their entire government. Because so many are on the cartel payroll, you don't know who is and who isn't, they may all have to go.

Lastly -- I don't care about "the drug cartels exist to supply North Americans with drugs" and it's all a sham and nothing can be done crap, if it gets to Texas being a mess with kidnappings and cartel wars and beheadings and gov officials in Texas on the cartel payroll -- if it starts to get as bad in Texas as it is in Mexico -- THEN SOMETHING MUST BE DONE, voters in Texas will be mad as hell and good upstanding citizens not on weed or other frickin' drugs will be mad as hell too and will not tolerate it.

We'd better not tolerate it, or we're gonna lose our country. That's all I'm saying. Do not let the USA turn into a horrible mess like what is is in Mexico right now.

6 has a Superman view of US Marines, clearly. Having never lived in or probably even visited a country ruled over by systemic multi generational corruption, it must be difficult to grasp the fact that no intervention ever causes the end of such a system, short of full scale war. As Pstarr said, the only options for the USA are economic. Mexican Middle class protesters do not a revolution make, never will. The best they can do is keep some modicum of normalcy in the region surrounding Mexico City. If you look at the turf maps of Mexico, the Government appears to be but one of a set of several competing gangs, each with it's own turf, agenda, power structure. The idea sending in the Marines would do any good is bloody ridiculous.

It's naive in the extreme to think that the US is the root of all of Mexico's problems. If cheap US corn and American demand for drugs suddenly evaporated tomorrow, Mexico would still be a corrupt Third World shithole. But yes, probably slightly less shitholish.

I do agree with you that invading Mexico would be about the most assinine thing we could possibly do, so incredibly stupid even our half-brained political elite would never entertain the notion. We've already got ~10% of Mexico's citizens living in the US, we don't need the other 90% as our wards. The 10% we've got are burden enough.
A garden will make your rations go further.
