I ran into this story by shear chance

US Denies French Fighters Emergency Landing Rights

By DAVE LINDORFF

Talk about fair-weather friends!

That's more bitter and vindictive than it is fair-weather friendship.

Did you hear what happened at the Formula 1 US grand Prix in Indianapolis Sunday?

Michelin, a "French" tire supplier to 7 of the teams in F1 bailed out on the race due to supposed safety issues with their tires. They were supposed to have backup tires available but didn't. So anyway, The entire field gridded up in front of 100,000 plus US fans and did one warmup lap and pitted. Six cars shod with Bridgestone tires ran the race. 100,000 US fans got the shaft because the FIA and Michelin couldn't agree on one issue. This is a huge black eye for Michelin and F1 and one of the blackest days in F1 history.

I was just watching EUROSPORT and heard this story. Sure seems like they are related.

But to delay in helping someone in an Emergency is beyond belief. That will certainly not help next time I am going through French immigrations.

Denyed in an emergency!? Disgusting! Reprehensible!

Might I add the French were very hospitable when I visited there. Particularly in the French Alps. Parisians were grumpy.. But hey so are New Yorkers... must be a big city thing.

I am sure this is have to be a mistake of some kind. I refuse to believe the Americans are acting like absolute babies.

Maybe some asshole air traffic controller did this one his won, but it could impossibly have been sanctioned from anything higher than a corporal.

Well Counterpunch is about as left biased as you could possibly be and I wouldn't exactly put it past them to have spun this story in an anti-American light. That is pretty much how they report everything. So there may well have been more to this story than this, but given the lack of objective reporting in the world, who knows what the real story is.

And I'm sure Foxnews reported this as French terrorists were trying to bomb the US. The truth is obviously somewhere in the middle.

Maybe you are right.

On a Canadian web site the story does not mention the US Air Force.

French fighters forced to land

If I new french I would love to see what the Fench say about this.

Interesting.
