Above all, I'm suspicious of Carter because he's got a cottage industry going playing good cop to America's bad cop. For all we know this is all planned.. it's useful to the US to have a ex-president who can get in the door in places where we otherwise can't. And then Carter reports back to the sitting president / state department.

That could very well be his purpose. I wonder 30 years from now if any of the past presidents will be used in the same fashion as Jimmy? I think Hillary could/has possibly filled similar diplomatic shoes but who else is there?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Sixstrings', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ColossalContrarian', 'W')ouldn't it be nice if all of America's (and the world's) problems could be blamed on Jimmy? Imagine how much better the US and entire world would be without his presidency.

We're just being objective here.

Looking beyond the surface.

Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize, well so did Obama.

Henry Kissinger also won this prize and other criminals like Hitler or Stalin were considered as candidates.

Carter got the Peace Prize for negotiating the Camp David Accord that brought decades of peace between Egypt and Israel.

And he created something like 9,000,000 jobs (well not personally).

He also created anitinflationary money policies to conquer the runaway inflation left by Nixon.

And he also got us on track to reduce military spending, so the conservatives decided he had to be destroyed.

Reagan reignited the Cold War with fudged numbers of Russia being an economic juggernaut with superwaepons (the old WMD scam). Read the story of the CIA's "Team B" study group and notice that Star Wars was brought to you by the same people that lied us into Iraq. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_B
Same damn script was recycled by the GOP.

Thing about Carter is though, he didn't even get along with his own party. The Democratic congress opposed him.

He was known to be preachy and prickly. Now somebody like Johnson, there was a tough SOB Democrat who could push things through Congress. And then FDR way before him.

One of Obama's failings is in not meeting with congressmen enough. But they all have different skillsets, Johsnon was a real ballbuster he dragged those congressmen in one by one until he got what he wanted.

It isn't easy to find politicians who won't tow the line like all of the rest and it will surely make you unpopular. I'm really not sure which is best at this point in my life, a president who caters to both the right and left or one who the right and left both dislike 8O

Its simple why the the US relies so much upon military force: if you have the biggest hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
An ideology is by definition not a search for TRUTH-but a search for PROOF that its point of view is right

Equals barter and negotiate-people with power just take

You cant defend freedom by eliminating it-unknown

Our elected reps should wear sponsor patches on their suits so we know who they represent-like Nascar-Roy

So who still thinks Jimmy Carter was the Best/Worst President for the 1920-2020 period?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Carter was steampunked by the Arab oil embargo. That disrupted everyone's lives, and Carter was their scapegoat. He was neither the greatest, nor the worst president during that time period. I would suggest that he was better than average, though.

I believe that Obama surpassed Carter as the worst president recently. It's a combined rating that reflects the terrible bungling of foreign affairs, crime, fiscal policy, race relations, and energy policy.

Here's where presidential historians place the presidents.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he worst presidents, according to the survey, were James Buchanan at 42, Andrew Johnson at 41, Franklin Pierce, William Henry Harrison, Warren Harding, Millard Fillmore, George W. Bush, John Tyler, Herbert Hoover, and Rutherford B. Hayes.

I've thought he was the best for a very long time. Some things he did disappointed me. But far less than any of the others.

Ike may be a good second, then down from there. But I was only little during Ike's term.

But that only carries from the late 50's forward. I wasn't around before then. :-D

Thanks for the fix.

It goes to show how wide a gap there is between public opinion and factual evidence.
