Strange, creepy voices

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Fri 17 Jun 2005, 00:08:57

Jato says I post strange, off-the-wall threads. OK, here's an off-the-wall topic: who have you heard on the radio or on the tube that has a voice that creeps you out? I was listening to Drudge's Sunday night radio show once when he played a lengthy talk by Dan Rather. I was amazed at how really creepy the guy sounded - just like he was out of his mind but didn't know it. It was truly punishing to listen to. Dick Cheney has a most unpleasant deadness in his voice. But by far the most grating ugly voice I've ever heard belongs to Larry Flynt.

David Beckem has a surprisingly whimsical voice for a football star.

Isn't it, like, three in the morning over there in England?

Dianne Fienstien, Barbara Boxor, Howard Dean, Al Gore, Ruth Bater Ginsberg, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry rank among the tops for me. IOt would be better if they were to be mute.

Now you just listed a bunch of leftists, semler. I don't mean what they say, I mean they sound creepy. If you had ever heard Larry Flynt speaking, you'd know what I mean. Some people have voices that are unbearable to listen to.

Politics aside, Barbara Boxer has a very strident, unpleasant sound to her voice. I can't get past the voice to listen to the content.

I agree with you on Larry Flynt, very creepy. Of course the paralysis probably has something to do with that.

That's what I'm talking about, doesn't even matter what they are saying, its just too hard not to tune them out. Question: is it a superficial thing to have a creepy voice and so one should ignore it, like looking at someone and trying hard not to notice a big pimple on the end of their nose? After all, I'll bet there are plenty of pimps with great sounding voices.
Still, I can't help feeling that what I heard in Dan Rather's voice was a function of some kind of psychological/spiritual deformity. The guy sounded like he wasn't playing with a full deck of cards.

 Just goes to show, there's a strong subjective element to this issue. Paul Harvey sounds OK to me.

I can't think of someone who sounds 'creepy' but there's a guy on ABC radio (here in Australia) who has a very 'wet' voice: like he's trying to talk around a mouthful of saliva or phlemn. Makes me want to clear my throat all the time, or cough, or I wish he would. Then, if I think about it too much I get a bit nauseous. Unfortuately he's the presenter of one of my favourite radio programs. The content is usually pretty good, but his voice!!!!!
Kind regards, Katkinkate

After listening to the coast to coast show on 9-11, I'm going to listen to Dubya's voice very close and tune in to the nuances. This whole thing is creeping me out big time.

There's a guy on the radio named "Karel" or "Corel" (it sounds like "Corelle" like the dishes) and I'm sure it's a made-up name, and I like the guy, but he also creeps me out if I listen closely since I think he's just a younger version of the "Billy Rubin" or "Buffalo Bill" character in the book/movie Silence Of The Lambs.

I can just imagine the guy when he gets older withdrawing from society into some big old creepy house/factory in an old industrial center and all the rest.....

The Pope! The new one. And he doesn't just sound creepy, his smile is extremely unnerving as well.

Especially when he speaks Latin. Creepy!
