PO, I'll try to help out on the scorecard. I've got the spreadsheet somewhere around here from a year or two ago when you were down for a bit.
After fueling up their cars, Twyman says they bowed their heads and asked God for cheaper gas. There was no immediate answer, but he says other motorists joined in and the service station owner didn't run them off.

Hey thanks jdmartin. A little cross checking never hurts.

I've cross checked Pops' posting of the Brent spreadsheet on occasion this last year.

If you want a copy of my 2013 Oil Price Challenge workbook, please send me a PM. I'll need to send it to you as an email attachment.

And if anyone else wants a copy, ditto.

Even though the DOE has decided to go with Brent as the benchmark, I still think it will be interesting to follow WTI. After all, the Congress may revoke the old US law that prohibits the USA from exporting oil. Perhaps they'll change that law. That would make a huge difference in the price.

btw, ObiWan still has a strong lead. IIIRC, the close would have to get to about $96 before SeaGypsy would take the #1 spot again.
There’s a strange irony related to this subject [oil and gas extraction] that the better you do the job at exploiting this oil and gas, the sooner it is gone.

Here's the scorecard with only a couple of weeks to go:

The EIA will report the final closing price for 2012 late next week. I'll post the last 2012 scorecard after that, but it looks like ObiWan won the game this year.

A "ghost" winner since ObiWan apparently can not post from wherever he went...

May the force be with you.

Crushed it out of the park if the relative positioning is considered. How in the hell can someone guess from a year out and not miss the metrics by slightly more than $2 in any category? $10-$20 I understand, but $2? Some of the others in the top-10 are nearly as good in to metrics but just missed in one, which still isn't all that bad. I'm not sure I could guess whether or not my nieces and nephews will be in or out of jail in a years time, let alone the price of something or another.

Does that mean I win by default or does Shorty m4 get the love? Guess I couldn't win 3 times in a row, that would be un-natural... $20 something error overall is pathetic by my previous efforts, but leaving next year until tomorrow, I hope Shorty m7 or whatever drops by for a guess at 2013!

lol, sorry SeaGypsy, ObiWan looks to be the winner this year. Are you going to play the 2013 game?
As long as the member has not been deleted/banned from po.com, they still are eligible, and that rule applies to the 2013 challenge, not the 2012 challenge. :)
