$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('JPL', 'e')volutionary traits that proved to be successful in the very short term, but not in the long. Group behaviour built cities, empires and eventually lead inexorably to Climate Change and resource depletion. This was "so not" a long term survival strategy (or if it was, I am on the wrong forum).

history is full of species that were victims of their own success. Like the Reptiles "keep building 'em bigger" model
It's not just a matter of "victims of their own success". When there is a long period of environmental stability, small critters evolve fairly rapidly into big fierce predators at the top of the food chain. But when there is a change, such as major volcanism, asteroid impact or ice age, the big boys are the most vulnerable.

We are descended from the mousey mammals that scampered through the under-brush trampled by tyranno-, stega- and bronto-.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pretorian', 'D')o you Aspies have kids? How often? Is it something in the "Y" chromosome or it spreads here and there?

It's something in the jeans I think.

JPL- I went back and read your posts, using the search user's post feature.

You mentioned somewhere that you and your wife bought a 'hobby' farm to retire on. My wife and I are thinking along similar lines, but cost is a major factor. Could you describe how you went about looking for the 'perfect place', what challenges you faced buying, insuring, and operating your hobby farm? Where are you now- what happened?

Repent-

Hi Repent

Sorry not to answer this one straight away - it's a bit of a painful episode to revisit.

I think I would give advise to anyone that's contemplating such a move not to do so - it was a hard lesson to learn that farmers are made from other farmers, it's not something you can buy into. There are other ways. Join a local permaculture group, get involved in a city farm, these are the ways forward for most people, I should have done that myself rather than striking off into the wilderness.

My wife & I lost our life's savings on the project & our marriage only scraped through very thinly (things are still not very good in that area). But one survives. Us aspies have a nack for that I think, also an ability to reinvent ourselves (maybe?).

Ho-humm. Anyhow. That's the story...
