Bills, mostly. Have a huge pile of em on my desk.
Books.
Like everyone else, who doesnt collect books??!?
Acoustic muscial instruments, knives and oil lamps. I really have a weakness for oil lamps of every kind. I even like the replicas of ancient lamps like those used in Rome and Egypt. Lamp light is flattering anyway.
When I owned a home things were different, but now I am in a small apartment and need to travel light so I've actually been using the things I used to keep as a stockpile.
I gave up most of my collections in order to become more mobile (I am aiming for a Transcendental-like contentment) so I collect music in mp3 form and movie files, but I still have a thing for stuff like can goods, soap, other hygiene stuff, paper products and bottled water. Food and water are self explanatory, but I seem to have a fear of being without soap and tampons. I would try my hand at soap making if I wasnt a little afraid of getting burned by lye. I guess I don't like being dirty. I want to feel fresh while I am negotiating with zombies. Still, I probably don't need to buy any more soap for about 10 years.
Just lately, I have been searching for surgical supplies. I think I could play emergency field surgeon if I had to. I know I probably shouldnt have, but I recently stitched up the scalp of a rowdy aquaintance who was injured while acting like a jackass. Saved him a trip to the ER and he's just fine now. I would like to own a glass pack syringe that can be sterilized and reused. I'd also like an autoclave for sterilization. If I could get away with it, I'd collect antibiotics and morphine.
If I wasnt so busy trying to pay all those bills, I would take a couple years off and become an EMT, but there's no time at the moment.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
