$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')ur corporations today have lost that insight through off-shoring and automation while paying lower wages, yet expecting to charge more for their products.
The corporation I work for formerly manufactured clothing here in the US. Now we have a factory in China.
99% of the remaining American employees where I work, including me, can't afford our products. The top folks at my company travel the world, fly first class, stay in 5 star hotels, utilize limousine service whenever they have to travel by car, rack up huge cell phone bills (like more than my gross monthly salary) and don't even bat an eye... Unless requests are made to replace vital equipment; then I get "we need to control expenses".
In my position I see the wanton waste by the top people and their demands for austerity from everyone else. It aggravates me, yet, in spite of the 'improving economy' noted by Obiwan, there just aren't many decent jobs to replace the one I've got which pays well above the median income in this area.
And at my current salary, almost double what I was making in 1999, I feel as though my std of living is actually lower right now than it was then.
Yeah, I saw this crap coming too; from the time I read "The Population Bomb" in 5th grade (didn't understand all of it but I got the gist), to the time I discovered PO and this website.
And yes, it's pretty clear that the 1% feels entitled to their loot and they use their propaganda arm, the Ministry of Truth (made of up US MSM) to convince us that the current morass is really the fault of the "dems" or the "reps", that the Tea Party fiscal conservatives are actually angry white racists, and that the OWS folks pointing out the corruption/collusion between the 1% and our bought and paid for CONgress, are actually dirty stinking hippy moochers.
Most people seem to lack the drive or interest to learn the truth and will reject the facts at every opportunity in favor of the happy, yet blatantly false narrative of progress and 'getting America back on track'. I've had people tell me the recession is actually a creation of the media and everything is fine. I've sat in a houseful of union workers (who make about 2x what their non-union counterparts earn in blue collar trades) tell me why I should vote republican -- irony?
Yes the 1% is eating our lunch and that pattern began in earnest under Reagan who rolled back taxes on the upper income folks. Through the power of compounding and the exponential function, the wealth inequality in this country has begun to exceed levels commonly associated with banana republics.
And you are absolutely correct in your premise SH, that if you don't hold it you don't own it.
A nations military should only be used in a nations self defense, not to entertain liberal cravings for shaping poor nations into images of themselves by force. -- Eastbay
