Peak Energy is a bad term on it's own, how can you have a Peak in something that isn't created or destroyed? Why not call it Even Steven Energy. Maybe create another term like Peak Energy Storage since Petroleum is such a convenient way of storing energy.

Eh I think the general point he was trying to make is that even though oil itself will peak in production, the net energy available to humanity through other means isn't anywhere near maxed out. I mean solar, wind, geothermal and tidal all in theory can supply enough energy for the human race many many times over. If you go to space based solar or figure out fusion power then the sky is the limit. Will we be able to effectively use these energy sources is another question. Will we be able to replace oil as a transportation fuel is another question.

We may be in for a bumpy ride along the way and historically speaking, it may last longer than any of us will be alive. It might take a few hundreds years for us to rebound and for civilization to get back on its feet again.
