Course I have this odd, nihilistic desire to see the world burn sometimes...

Seriously though, to much focus on the Pres. This decade will be the time of the Legislature; for good or ill.

If I vote this time around, it will most likely be for the candidate who would bring on collapse the fastest. Right now, my top 4 in that category are:

1). Bachmann
2). Palin
3). Perry
4). Trump

Each one of them is so self-absorbed and has such a warped view of reality that they would do the job quite nicely. 8)

Are you really serous, you left Obama out of that, I would think he would be number 1.

Wait a minute he has cause the fastest crash..

America's crash has been caused by the Friedmanite economics of the Republican party which saw the emergence of the WTO and the shipping of your industry to China, going back to the actor fellow. Free market policies which call for no regulation of business and capital have their natual effects in things such as you find in America where a populace has grown attached to cheap junk being manufactured by American capitalists in Chinese slave factories, with the use of credit. The fact that the protectionist Democrats have picked up the tab for what is in effect the policy effects of your party points to a serious disconnect in American politics where those who are in favour of trade barriers and higher taxes get blamed for the effects of policies promoted by the dominant free capitalist party. This is not to say that these things can in anyway be mitigated as the essence of capitalism, like feudalism, is full spectrum domination, by the owners of capital. Nonetheless, this story has to be told.

You can tell the story but nobody is going to listen. It is basically the historians' truth. The public will never believe it until they are all dead and then it won't matter.

I appreciate your point, hence my qualifier. Whilst there aren't many listening, the truth must out simply for being.........the truth.

Yeah. Thanks for the education, Americandream.

Putin was only half right of course. We are all parasites upon the Green Earth, slaves to our automation, high-technology, and an innate genetic need to consume. Inexpensive petroleum and several centuries of accumulated industrial design have destroyed our natural relationship with the Ecology of the Earth and thus we are in Overshoot. Until we come to terms with our predatory predisposition and genetic proclivity to breed and devour, we will remain incapable of creating a steady-state green economy based on the 3-R's. But that would be our only salvation.

Once upon a time, we consumed our kids on open campfires, as well as those tribes next door. Of course, with time we learnt to abate these tendencies and develop systems and rules for the improvement of life quality generally. Of course, in time, a new individualised outlook emerged from this new found order and no doubt, we will in time come to grips with the excesses arising therein. Either that or failure as a species. Whether that renders us parasites within the very environment that spawned us, I am not sure. Nature throws up some bizarre spectacles.
