Specializing in behaviour managment, I often work with people who are physicly able but mentally/ socially dysfunctional to the point of needing assistance. ... Excessive requote text deleted.

Will natural justice come back into play in current first world countries as economies bite the dust? I very much suspect so.

While having no use for criminals I sure hate to see them lumped in with the truly disabled in a thread like this, sadly though I find my self in agreement that the handicapped will suffer first and most. My first child was born severely disabled and passed on three years ago, while I terribly miss her I'm glad she won't ever have to suffer in a world where she would be one of the "dregs" of society and be demonized as the cause of a collapse that in reality was brought on by greed, resource depletion, and the biggest mismanagement of resources in the history of man.

Well, the original post was about people that were not only mentally disabled, but also seriously dangerous to others. No one really would be surprised to see a large extended family caring for one of their own who couldn't be on their own mentally, whether now, or in a more deprived future, if they are not dangerous. The problem is that there really are folks who are mentally disabled, and disturbed in such a way as to be a continuing, immediate, physical hazard to those around them; if they also happen to be physically strong, they can easily overwhelm what a family can manage.

Go back a few generations, and these folks were permanently locked up in mental institutions; and as cruel as it sounds, is it really worse than letting them run crazy and free, kill some people, and then have to be "put down"?

You can't fix everyone, even today.

I worked for a few of these 'mentally disabled' ppl, they were my bosses. Too bad I didn't throw em out a second story window back then. It would have done them good....
