$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')alf of people in USSR were slaves until 1960s
.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')o work in the fields for a few sacks of wheat and corn per year
.

I guess half of USA working at wal-mart and the like are falling on their knees and thanking the American oligarchy for their luxurious lifestyles. As for slavery, are you 100% sure you are not headed in that direction?

They should be. In a few hours a Wall-mart's greeter makes more than a Soviet peasant slave did in a year.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('prajeshbhat', 'A')s for slavery, are you 100% sure you are not headed in that direction?

Who cares who is heading where? Death will have us all as far as I am aware. Now is what matters.
What matters is that in a few hours a Wall-mart's greeter makes more than a Soviet peasant slave did in a year.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pablonite', 'T')here seems to have been a fundamental change in the modus operandi of large corps. At first it was all about manufacturing and selling a quality product but now the bottom line is the prime directive, it's the world of international corporate pirates who have no allegiance to anything except profit and concentration of power.

I agree, but the people who support the corps by demanding 2 for 1 pricing are just as much to blame.

Once Olie down the road was the preferred saddle maker over Fran in the next county, everyone knew him personally and he stood by his work. Then it was Olie Tires Inc. over Fran Tires inc. because of the better warrantee and perceived quality. But finally it's down to whatever brand WalMart carries because you can buy 2 tires for the price of one anywhere else. Except of course there isn't anywhere else so if you happen to want what Wally doesn't have basically you are out of luck.

Nothing inherently wrong except for the idea
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

The problem is not just that corporations are downsizing their workforce, wages quality etc. The real problem is their cozy relationships with governments and dictators. I read this news article that said that ExxonMobil paid no taxes in USA in 2009. So they drilled and polluted american soil and water, they used the american roads and railways and ports to distribute their oil, they used all those government incentives and paid no taxes. If the worlds most powerful democracy has no ruling over these big corporations, what do you think will happen to Africa.
