Just heard a song worthy of bringing this out of the past...

Its called Dear Miami by Roisin Murphy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWPafMhsW6I

Not exactly my favorite style, but the lyrics are really cool, Its a funeral dirge for the city of Miami as it will be submerged due to global warming.

Dear Miami
You're the first to go
Disappearing
Under melting snow
Each and everyone
Turn your critical eye
On the burning sun
And try not to cry
@#$% highways

Really Red: "Decay"

DECAY
First the fuel could stop
Distribution's gone
Then the food could stop
Well, all law might be gone
(when the trucks are gone)
You better have a gun
Lots of water too
Plenty medicine
Well it could all be through
Chain reaction
Can't stop the greed
Pulling it down around our ears
Can't stop the need
Filling us all up with fear
Freeze a few old folks
Who can't pay their heating bill
Pay a few more farmers
Not to plow their fields

That's a good one.

This is a really cool video someone made set to the live version:

This Species has Amused itself to Death
Roger Waters
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')e watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told
We bought and sold
It was the greatest show on earth
But then it was over
We ohhed and aahed
We drove our racing cars
We ate our last few jars of caviar
And somewhere out there in the stars
A keen-eyed look-out
Spied a flickering light
Our last hurrah
And when they found our shadows
Grouped around the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data on their lists
And then the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the only explanation left
This species has amused itself to death

Radon, truely awe inspiring.

Share the End - Carly Simon
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')ere come the priests, each one wailing and bemoaning
Lordy, they got their heads bowed down
Here come the madmen, they're too excited for atoning:
"Burn the mosque," they're shouting, "Burn it down!"

Save me a place, surrounded with friendly faces
All of us have gathered here to share the end
To watch the world go up in flames

Please, Lord we're not ready
Give us a day
Give us an hour

Here come the kings, let's dispense with their apologizing
Just bring on the acrobats and clowns
Here comes the rumble, hang on for universal dying
Please ignore the baying of the hounds

Save me a place, surrounded with friendly faces
All of us have gathered here to share the end
To watch the world go up in flames

Please, Lord we're not ready
Give us some time to work things out
Please, Lord we're not ready
Give us a day
Give us an hour
Please, Lord we're not ready
Give us some time to work things out
Please, Lord we're not ready
Give us a day
Give us an hour

Share the End

The last few songs were so depressing, it looked like it killed the thread.

Here's something a little more upbeat.

There's only so much oil - Tower of Power

How about Todd Rundgren's "Everybody's Going to Heaven/King Kong Reggae:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqLh6otWXRk

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')i]I remember, I remember
What life was like in the yard
'Cause you can't ever think about dying
And it just makes a person get hard
I keep wondering if my friends feel like I do
I don't know how someone could stand it
To go through what I'm now going through
So every night we party
And every night we get too high
And I put myself so close to death
'Til I think that I ain't gonna die
And I realize just a little
Why sometimes I like to feel like dirt
It's the only thing in this day and age
That can make me feel close to the earth
But if I ever get to heaven
If I ever reach that door
I will listen why I had to go through this life
Why they just couldn't take me before
But everybody's going to Heaven
'Cause already we've all been through Hell

We're gonna laugh all night and cry all day
Watch the big monkey do the King Kong Reggae
A Cadillac and a Chevrolet
Watch the big monkey do the King Kong Reggae
The president of the U. S. A.
Watch the big monkey do the King Kong Reggae
Everybody fall down on your knees and pray
Here comes that big monkey doing the King Kong Reggae

Todd's lead guitar in that song is legendary.
There’s a strange irony related to this subject [oil and gas extraction] that the better you do the job at exploiting this oil and gas, the sooner it is gone.

Thanks for posting this, It's a great song. I'm kind of surprised that I've never heard it before.

That's oddly appropriate too.

Quite a hit actually.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Dies Irae

This day, this day of wrath
shall consume the world in ashes,
as foretold by David and the Sibyl.

What trembling there will be
When the judge shall come
to weigh everything strictly!

Rex tremendae

King of awful majesty
You freely save those worthy of salvation
Save me, found of pity.

Lacrimosa

That day is one of weeping,
on which shall rise again from the ashes
the guilty man, to be judged.
Therefore spare this one, O God,
merciful Lord Jesus:
Give them rest. Amen.
