Bruin, Where to begin? You simply have to get out more--of your country, that is.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('bruin', 'P')residents are pathological liars, therefore anybody else in the public can lie until the president does not. Great logic.

The VAST majority of lies and deciet in any media source is "official statements". Lies are never right. But they are so common as to no long warrant surprise or outrage. They have become status quo, the expected norm.

Don't want to be lied too? Destroy your television and all radios. Don't read newspapers, or magazines, or most books. Actually you might want to just buy yourself a place in the woods and limit your interactions to non-verbal creatures.

Whatever your approach, don't waste my time whinning about Newsweek because their GOVERNMENT source changed his tune. If you've just now realized you are being lied to, it's time to WAKE UP!

So the theorem we need to wake up to is:

A. Presidents are pathological liars, therefore anybody else in the public can lie until the president does not.

B. Lies are so common that they no longer warrant surprise or outrage, therefore, do nothing.

C. If you do not like parts A or B, interact with nonverbal creatures only.

Why fight the system? Just drink the Kool-Aid.

Amazing, just amazing. Bruin, you can't be serious. Your moral equivalency arguments and reductionist absurdity are surely the products of a fine honed sense of humour.

Oh...almost forgot Bruin--If you are actually serious. You know, you can always take the red pill to escape the matrix of a belief system imposed on you. Those who refuse to take the red pill with their kool-aid now, are sure to have to recieve it suppository style, and delivered with prejudice, in the end. So how's about it, Dude? Do it today, or tell us all about the consequences in a suppository essay, tomorrow? You feelin' lucky, Punk? :lol:

Bruin: My message to you is this. Forget your zit. You have brain cancer. Once you fix the brain cancer, if you even can fix the brain, then worry about your zit. Newsweek is a mosquito: Annoying, but inconsequential. Worry about the attack helicopter, not the mosquito.

*cough*Yellow Journalism*cough*. That being said, I don't say we should ban them, as that would infringe upon the first amendment to the US constitution. They are free to print whatever they please. However, since I do not agree with it, I will not read it. Hell, I haven't read a Newsweek in 3 years, and I don't intend on re-starting anytime soon. I regard them with the same amount of credibility that I do the New York Times or CBS Evening News.

Semler, But Fox and CNN are okay? CBS and Newsweek were set up because they dared to stray from the party line. CBS is the traditional mouthpiece of the CIA, so what you were viewing there, through the manipulationa and humiliation of Rather, was the CIA, pissed for being blamed for the WMD fiasco, trying to rip Bush a new one. They're street fighters, the whole bloody lot of them. Newsweek, probably same.

This precious and plodding analysis of a minor traffic violation when the country is being driven into the ground by a bunch of idiots drunk with power, so misses the point, it's actually kind of funny

Fox News=Faux News
CNN=Communist Network News
NBC=NoBody Cares
ABC=A Biased Channel
PBS=Public Brainwashing Service

I don't really trust any domestic news. If I want true news, I turn it to the BBC, RAI, NZI, Radio Netherlands, and even CRI. I would probably be more inclined to belive KCNA than MSNBC. American media is too biased either way. At least with forigen broadcasts, they are less into the party line of the DemoPublican party, and concerned with advancing thier own agenda.

Bruin, what also disgusts me about your angle is that it completely caves in to the terrorist barbarians we're at war with.

I've seen some quotes from people who were involved with stirring up those riots; something vile and disgusting about overrunning America and cleansing the world of Jews.

If you think those riots weren't whipped up by our enemies, using whatever excuses they could get their vile and murderous little hands on, I have a bridge for sale and it comes along with some nice tourist spots on each end.

Did Isakoff lie??

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')sakoff cited a reliable source that among the neat little "interrogation" techniques used to break down Muslim prisoners was putting a copy of the Koran into a toilet.

In the old days, Isakoff's discovery would have led to Congressional investigations of the perpetrators of such official offence. The Koran-flushers would have been flushed from the military, panels would have been impaneled and Isakoff would have collected his Pulitzer.

No more. Instead of nailing the wrong-doers, the Bush Administration went after the guy who REPORTED the crime, Isakoff.

Was there a problem with the story? Certainly. If you want to split hairs, the inside-government source of the Koran desecration story now says he can't confirm which military report it appeared in. But he saw it in one report and a witnesses has confirmed that the Koran was defiled.

Of course, there's an easy way to get at the truth. RELEASE THE REPORTS NOW. Hand them over, Mr. Rumsfeld, and let's see for ourselves what's in them.

Newsweek is responsible for more death than all of my weapons combined. Maybe we should ban the press? Yea! that's it! Ban all media! :lol:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')But there was no mercy. Donald Rumsfeld pointed the finger at Newsweek and said, "People lost their lives. People are dead." Maybe Rumsfeld was upset that Newsweek was taking away his job. After all, it's hard to beat Rummy when it comes to making people dead.

And just for the record: Newsweek, unlike Rumsfeld, did not kill anyone -- nor did its report cause killings. Afghans protested when they heard the Koran desecration story (as Christians have protested crucifix desecrations). The Muslim demonstrators were gunned down by the Afghan military police -- who operate under Rumsfeld's command.

Our Secretary of Defense, in his darkest Big Brother voice, added a warning for journalists and citizens alike, "People need to be very careful about what they say."

Now why didn't I take the blue pill.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')The International Committee of the Red Cross documented what it called credible information about U.S. personnel disrespecting or mishandling Korans at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and pointed it out to the Pentagon in confidential reports during 2002 and early 2003, an ICRC spokesman said Wednesday.

Well, Ted Kennedy's car has still killed more people than all my guns combined. And since when is a damn book worth taking a human life over? I never saw the massive uprising when the Blble was used as toilet paper? Kind of shows where the islamo-facists are living, back in the 13th century. Time seems to have stopped for this reigon.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Carrie', '
')I think Newsweek was trying to be sensational, but they said the source was a senior government official. My gut tells me that they got hung out to dry by this official, who became alarmed by the global reaction & backed off. They took a risk by only using one unnamed source & paid for it.
I'm concerned, though, that this could create a chilling effect for other publications. They may think twice before publishing something that casts the government in a bad light.

Why doesn't Newsweek name this "senior government official" ? The reliance on this type of source makes them a Bush mouthpiece. The Bushies claim the Newsweek report is wrong, but will they publish the secret study it refers to? Don't hold your breath.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')The "Newsweek" report of the desecration of the Koran by US soldiers had led to anti American protests in the Arab world. In Afghanistan 15 persons were killed during these protests. At first "Newsweek" apologized for the article, but then retracted it under massive pressure from the US government.

http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0 ... 63,00.html

Sorry, but this article is in german, this is the translation.

But we all know this is the MO of the white house. This is their common theme with the media. Not to mention all of the journalists killed in Iraq. Also the Italian journalist that almost got killed.

Have you not yet realized that they are playing for keeps?
