Excellent point.

Its pretty rare to hear people say "thank you" and "please" and otherwise just be polite.

For instance, if the black lady in the video had said "your pancakes look OK, ma'am" instead of "your pancakes look OK, bitch" it all might've turned out differently.

And that's my point.. the *entire* society has broken down and that *includes* the church. When teen girls are showing up to church with a big belly and it's a-okay, then something's wrong there.

I agree that society is breaking down. I disagree that the reason is a lack of religion. That's the false conclusion that reactionaries like the Taliban used to establish law and order in a way that was welcomed by some, but later regretted. The root problem is the cultural rot of decadence like the last days of Rome, the hyperindividualism that has been talked about here. This is what is symbolized by the guy walking his car with his SUV. Wasting energy by swimming in the comforts of BAU is equated with the american way of life, of social status. We take it for granted to the point where we don't even appreciate it anymore (like a drug addict who doesn't get high anymore). We don't appreciate how exceptional this is, that even the lower class in the US have it made in the shade compared to the 3rd world.

We're right at the top of Maslow's heirarchy of needs, where all our baser stuff is taken care of, but instead of using that freedom from wont and need to ponder the cosmos, we argue about maple syrup in order to give our lives drama (and believe me, that video was ALL about being the center of attention, even when it's negative attention). It's all about "LOOK AT ME" whether you're arguing over pancakes, posting a Facebook update, or flying a plane into an IRS building!

We used to tape stories about food-theft-related-violene to the refridgerator at work, but we limited it to Hot Pockets after someone went ballistic over his Hot Pockets and sent a threatening email to over 1500 people.

Oh yeah, co-workers get so weird about food. One job I had I threw away a big girl's two litre of diet coke.. it had like an inch left in it, had been in there for days, had to be flat.. I didn't think about it I just tossed it. Yes that was wrong, but holy cow did she flip out.. really flip out, all over one inch of diet coke.

Yes!!! I dont understand this national compulsion for "LOOK AT ME" drama..this seems to have become an everyday theme across US society as a whole.

A murder outside of a Sacremento IHOP seems to taking on a life of it's own:

The crew included a male reporter and a female videographer. Both were repeatedly struck, with the woman being pulled to the ground by her hair and kicked in the face. They were trying to cover reaction to a recent murder.

All you need to do is watch some Dave Chappell or Carlos Mencia to get a pretty good perspective on the irony that only racial minorities can use racial slurs.

I think the message they are sending is more or less "why don't we just grow up and get over it -- there will ALWAYS be some racist idiots, so ignore them instead of getting hysterical about it".

But no, destroying the planet and fighting each other are pretty much what the bulk of humanity is all about...
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.
