In light of the times, food price induced unraveling in the 'Arab World', there is a real possibility that the continued flow of oil out of the region may become threatened. If this occurs the US will have a choice of trying to keep the status quo in place using more and more investment or to radically change sides. This poll is about the possibility of the US changing sides.

Not going to happen. With 40 % of he US population now calling themselves conservative. Not with the Arab states collapsing. Oil and gas offshore Israel now. Not after 9/11. Not as long as Israel is a democracy in the midst of theocracies and tyrannies.

Israel will be abandoned when there's no more oil in the middle east.

Right now though, it's not in our self interest to abandon Israel. They still have the nukes we provided. They are still the joker in the deck in that they can bomb any Arab country that gives us too much trouble, but we don't have to get bombed in return. They are a cold war hold-over admittedly, but in realpolitik terms, still useful.

It's just as likely that Israel will abandon the US.When we pull out of the region due to a lack of funds they will have to deal with the new eight hundred pound gorrilla in the room China. Such a deal!.

vtsnowedin is half right IMO, we will desert Israel when China tells us to do so, they are our bond holder in majority and that gives them enormous subtle power. Any time they wish to be blunt they can, but my study of China leads me to believe they vastly prefer subtle influence.

Obviously, de-funding Israeli Apartheid is the moral choice, given Israel's decades long history of terrorism support.

By comparison, there was the decision 30 years ago to stand up to South African Apartheid.

I predict that within the next two decades a nuke will go off in Washington D.C. and second nuke will go off in New York. I suspect the radioactive residue will point to the former state of Pakistan. The weapons will be delivered ala Tom Clancy in a vending machine. If it is fifteen or more nukes spread around the country, they will be delivered by rental truck and the residue may still be Pakistani, but the driving force behind their delivery will be the Chinese. The grid will shut down and the U.S. will slip into chaos.

That will take us out of the running for the final pools of oil hiding under the arctic and in the deep recesses of the world’s oceans. Either way the Muslims will get the blame. Mecca will be a sheet of molten glass and it will be a bad day to be Muslim in what is left of these United States.

Israel will take a shot at ethnic cleansing. They may or may not be successful. If the IDF is given free reign, my money is bet on the Jews.
