$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he urgent search for solutions to population growth .

Not very damn urgent when powerful governments and religious institutions STILL actively discourage birth control and actively promote procreation. :x

Religious leaders need as many followers (of their failh) as possible, they'd happily support birth control for the others!
I think they would rather have millions of starving followers and blame others for depleting the food supply, than take measures to reduce the risks of future starvation.
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.:Anonymous

Plant,

What is your point?

I have seen these charts before, Meadows is from the Club of Rome group IIRC. "Limits to Growth"

Right you are, Ludi.

My experience as someone who chose to remain single and make a (relatively) small footprint on the planet by living simple is bizarre due to the religious institutions.

Over the past few decades, I have had MANY people tell me I'm evil, a sinner, selfish, or worse, since I am not married and producing a brood at a rapid clip. At least it's gotten less frequent recently as alternate lifestyles become generally more acceptable...

Imagine! I just tell these people to try reading and thinking about a finite earth a bit, and THEN decide if they want to throw rocks (and roll my eyes and sigh a lot).
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

Malthus was Real

"Must we not go with either a bang or a whimper, but in an orgy of mutual self-gratification, and congratulations?" What good is it to escape the climate gallows if, as we walk out the jail door into the sunlight, we are greeted in the courtyard by Malthus, bearing a sythe? On the sythe is inscribed: If the subsistence for man that the earth affords was to be increased every twenty-five years by a quantity equal to what the whole world at present produces, this would allow the power of production in the earth to be absolutely unlimited, and its ratio of increase much greater than we can conceive that any possible exertions of mankind could make it…. yet still the power of population being a power of a superior order, the increase of the human species can only be kept commensurate to
