$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Itch', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') didn't say there were only two groups, I said there were two schools.

Right. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

:) Don't be sorry, I should have made myself more clear.

Argh, that was me there. Well done everyone, you've made this thread a lot better than I could have hoped for. I think it is good to also notice (as someone pointed out) that pessimistic and optimistic schools have their realistic and unrealistic "teachers". Some pessmists seem to believe in a total collapse overnight, whilst some optimists seem to think that all that will happen will be a return to 19th century living, with a little bit of population control sorting everything out. Well, sorry lads, but the time for population control was decades ago.
There'll be war, there'll be peace
But one day all things shall cease
All the iron turned to rust
All the proud men turned to dust
So all things time will mend
So this song will end

Have hope. The human spirit is a magnificent thing, and I'll bet everyone on this board has met someone who will live to see their grandchildren be born in a post-oil world.

I have lost all hope. I have lost faith in my religion. The only thing keeping me going is a compulsion to enjoy every minute of what we have left. I feel like someone with a death sentence from cancer or something. It's extra tough on my wife who thinks I'm a kook and that I've been "brainwashed". At least I have a nice dog.

I fail to see how losing faith in religion is a bad thing, but then again, I'm a humanist. At least you are still together with your wife, and at least you have a dog (my brother is allergic to them). True, we are both have a high chance of dying, but death is highly over-feared. Once you are dead, you can't be upset: it is the one crisis in which there are no regrets. As for dying, well, it is one of the shortest periods of your life, even if it takes a few months. The trick is not to start dying now, but to stay alive, stay sardonic and stay human.

Good view, MrExsesive.

I am pesimistic when it comes to following gov.
And optomistic when it comes to community.
Individually- your gonna do what youre gonna do but I'd rather do it with a small group/tribe/community than on my own or with a government.

I want to always point out-
State: government
Nation: state of mind
Country: culture

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Yamaha_R6', 'I') firmly believe we will have a recession, but that will be the extent of it in first would countires. How bad of a recession? I dont know, but there will always be food to eat, It just might not be the food you LIKE to eat.

Like human bodies.

"The meat of your mother sticks between my teeth" was an insulte popular on Easter Island as they crashed from 10,000 down to 150.

But it was only going to be a temporary recession, right? I mean, it's not like the trees are going to disappear overnight? It's not like the prices of the trees is going to skyrocket overnight, right?

Though I'll probably never find out, I'm betting that Californian coastal cities have some of the worst cases of cannibalism. Maybe that's just from watching The Ultimate Warrior, but I think places like Los Angeles and San Fransisco are just as isolated as Easter Island and a lot less habitable. "Cities are some of the most hostile enviroments on Earth, and we made them."
