My dad went back to work a few weeks after his quintuple bypass. (Volunteer work, not paid)

Or is it only low-income people who don't go back to work?

I suspect the vast majority of people who experience catastrophic illness or injury return to work, and do not become disabled or go on Medicaid.


I think that most people still have enough dignity that they don't want to be an undue burden on family and society. Who really wants to sit around vegetating?

I agree. Most people don't want to be disabled, just as most people don't want to be poor. Most people want to be productive members of society, whatever that means to them personally, to their families and friends.

I agree. Most people don't want to be disabled, just as most people don't want to be poor. Most people want to be productive members of society, whatever that means to them personally, to their families and friends.



While I don't care for free handouts or those with a sense of entitlement I'm very alarmed at the blame the poor sentiment in this country. There's a hell of a lot of good working Americans who are on hard times through no fault of their own right now. Wanna blame somebody blame the warmongers and the money changers.

100% agree. But beyond simply blaming them we should probably be withdrawing our support from them. How to do this without collateral damage to the less powerful is a troubling problem. I can identify a lot with some of the "starve the beast" sentiment from the right, but it seems so often that sentiment is aimed at the less powerful, at the poor, elderly, and others who benefit from "entitlements" rather than aimed at the warmongers and money changers. :(

One thing we can all do is pay off debt, refuse to hold stock and bonds, invest our money in to tangibles that will be useful in the future, and buy from unionised American companies.

')If you value health care, it would be very wise to put yourself in the best possible condition for a good outcome. That would include:

1. Being in the best physical condition you can be in prior to your need
2. Having cash and insurance to pay for services rendered
3. Take the direction you receive from health care professionals to heart and make lifestyle changes.
4. Follow through with aftercare instructions. Use creams and ointments, eat healthy food, continue to exercise, etc.


...and don't forget that you are going to die anyway.
All above won't change it.
