The US voters are used to division, in fact they encourage it.
Compromise means everyone gets a little of what they want. But when everyone gets something, "I" don't get everything and that just isn't good enough.
Let's get together and get things done went out of fashion long ago, today there is only one stump speech: Here is what I'll get for you and here's what I'll deny to everyone else.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
