No. And I love science and engineering.

A system like that is much more susceptible to abuse. Ever seen the movie Brazil? People's human nature is too dark. The future with a system like that would not be like "Star Trek".

Vorsprung Durch Technik.

Also, no, clear cut economic Marxism using the West's cultural Marxism infection as an entry vector. A society existed once which was led by real Scientists, Engineers and Free Thinkers, it was called America and it was a Republic.

Technocracy is the default political ideology of scientists.

They assume that everyone is as smart and well-intentioned as they are.

An Idiocracy by whom? The Statists who have removed personal responsibility from society and dumbed down the individual? YOUR people, right Mos? Let the Law of Nature sweep clean all the un-fit kept alive and their unnatural, slovenly methods by your nanny-state ways. Idiocracy will be gone in a week when people actually have to work to put food in their mouths. You created the idiocracy. YOU STATISTS DID!

Being the kind of person who learns something new every day, I am wondering what a "statist" is? I try and stay out of conspiracy nonsense and political arguments so I'm not familiar with the various niches, some of them of course, libs, neo-cons, communists and socialists, skinheads, bleeding heart, pc, eco and green, but statist?

Nope...I need some educatin' on this one. Is it good? Or bad?

Perfect government employee response. Too dumb or lazy to do the work themselves. But depend on those who do work to provide for their well-being.

What an ignorant understanding of history and economics, Mos. How exactly did the individuals do this to themselves?

I want an answer this time, not some cowardly act where you report my post and attempt to get all the words deleted.

How did the individuals in this country dumb down themselves exactly?

My new signature:
I'd like to point out, Mos will never answer someone who has challenged his frivolous points with valid retorts. Mos only knows how to stir doubt with random objections, not actually arrive at a conclusion based on discussion and compromise. Mos is not capable of this human quality.

Mos,
All my posts should be rendered to shite as this place has been overrun with enviro-noobs and Gaia-philes who know nothing about how to build a widget and sell it it to people like you and me, even though they need x-amount of widgets to live.

It's not about history. It's about free will.

Han Solo: Damn fool, I knew you were going to say that.
Obi-Wan: Who's the more foolish: The fool, or the fool who follows him?

Could very well apply to all those people living in tent cities who signed liar loans, or my neighbors who will one day be burning their furniture to heat their McMansions. The buck stops with the individual, IMHO.

Statist's are people who believe in authoritarian rule by Government. It can be called communist/fascist/tyrannical/democratic but they believe that the ultimate authority is the State (Government).

Got it. So when a country is founded on the principle of, "We The People", I suppose there is some way the political enthusiasts decide that certainly authority doesn't flow from the people, but is another conspiracy derived from the Illuminati, the Rothschilds, some of secret organization, etc etc?

Which is why around here calling someone a statist might be considered an insult?

So when "We The People" contacted our "elected representatives" and overwhelmingly let them know that the American people did not support the 750 billion bank bail out, and it was done anyway against the wishes of like 80% of the people. . . what is that? One example of many.

Tanada has it right. Wasn't it Ben Franklin who said "We have given you a republic, now lets see if you can keep it". "You" meaning the people.
"The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close. In its place we are entering a period of consequences…"

Responses to Hubbert in 1950s?

Unread postby gaelenb » Mon 13 Sep 2010, 17:47:27

You know what would be incredibly useful? Reaction quotations from people in response to Hubbert's prediction of Continental US Peak Oil in 1965-70. I bet they were saying much of the same things deniers are saying now, and that would be a knock-down point in the the argument for our side.

Does anyone have any sources on this?

Ken Deffeyes worked with Hubbert at Shell in the 1950's and wrote the books Hubbert's Peak
and Beyond Oil. Check his books or google him and see if he will answer an email for you
about the question. Please share it with us if he does so we will not pepper a great resource
with identical requests.
