All fine.
But EEStor was also trumpeted as a breakthrough...
Solar towers projects in Australia also were...

It seems to be plenty of similar projects popping out these days and fizzling out.
You see them as evidence of progress but I observe that up to date they are uniformly failing to deliver and so I prefer to view them as evidence of growing desperation.

Again, I do not expect bacterial based systems to do any materially better job in converting CO2 to hydrocarbons than algal systems are doing.
At best they will get something "as good".

EEstor was always just an internet rumor. It hasn't been recognized or won any awards. No one should believe anything about EEstor until they show the goods. They haven't. Joule has. So has Synthetic Genomics. So have many other bio-engineering companies. Genetic Engineering really IS a real science. It really IS a real business. There is every reason to believe GE has a very bright future ahead, chock full of discoveries and innovations.

Synthetic Life is here now. And this is all part of Gaia's evolutionary plan to wake up and smell the cosmos.

DNA Factory Plans to Open Within 6 Months

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')o what exactly is a synthetic biology “part”? The short answer is that biological parts are small snippets of DNA with basic, well-understood functions (e.g. the production of a certain protein). Building a microbe from scratch is no easy task, especially if you have to identify and characterize all of these building blocks yourself. That’s exactly what synthetic biologists have been doing – it costs millions of dollars and takes years of legwork.

Synthetic biology is an emerging field that combines biology and engineering to reconfigure DNA into desirable results, generally microorganisms that can be used to produce drugs, perform chemical reactions, or work as fuels. But because the field is so new, there haven’t yet been standards set for what works and what doesn’t. Characterizing these basic components (and providing them) will give a common engineering language for researchers working on very different problems. It will also make potential progress faster and cheaper.

It really IS a real business. There is every reason to believe GE has a very bright future ahead, chock full of discoveries and innovations.

Certainly there is some potential within GE.
However both discussed companies have failed to demonstrate anything better for CO2 to hydrocarbons conversion than natural algae based systems can offer.
So such discoveries are irrelevant as an energy breakthroughs.
Just rising false hopes.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')ynthetic Life is here now. And this is all part of Gaia's evolutionary plan to wake up and smell the cosmos.

Synthetic Life as it stands now is a copycat, not evolution.
Btw,
Evolution has no "plans" or "purposes" or "targets".

Gene is an unit of life.
Organisms are only "survival machines" enabling survival of information contained in genes.
Until you have made unknown for Nature genes (DNA sequences) performing some new and useful tasks you cannot claim that you invented new life.
If you made some artificial replicating and information preserving structures not based on DNA, these would also qualify as life, needless to say.

Where did you find a source for that? Oh, that's right... you always just pull things out of your ass for us.

errr... no thank you.

They are irrelevant very much like existing similar systems based on algae.

They are irrelevant because no amount of fiddling with DNA can address rate of diffusion of CO2 from air to reaction medium where photosynthetic conversion takes place.
This process of diffusion is DNA-independent so DNA fiddling cannot alter it even in theory.

So to run given process efficiently it must be coupled with FF power plant or similar CO2 source.
Algal setups can also do that.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'B')oys and girls I'm going to lock this thread and start with the formal warnings if you don't behave and that is a big waste of my time - be civil or go somewhere else.

and:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')ou are about to earn a vacation EU, any more ad homs in this thread and you're out.

The same goes for everyone else.

This was written on page 17 of this thread.
main-doomer-fallacy-t59241-240.html

and now:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Carlhole', 'W')ow, your ass holds a lot of... stuff, huh?

So now he should earn vacation from this site.

He is not fit to take a part in subjects discussed here.

Don't you think so, Pops?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Carlhole', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I')t is somewhat ironic that Carlhole attacks Malthuisan pessimists with a "red herring, a distraction. Their numbers are in decline because of people like Carlhole.

Pops, thanks for bringing us a reminder.

The doomers here are left wing retards who can't make it in any society and resort to crime, freeloading, lies, taking government handouts, etc. to survive.

Left wing? Yup.
Make it in society? Yup, doing just fine thank you.
Crime? Nope.
Freeloading? I have been continuously employed, not one day unemployed, since October of '76. And it is not September of '72 because it took me a month to find a job out of the service (As an E-6, if that means anything to you.)
Lies? Nope
Government handouts? Well maybe. If you consider doing public sector consulting engineering work as a "government handout."

Admittedly I don't have full leftie credentials. I worked my way through night school, got my degree when I was 37, got my P.E. (that is Professional Engineer - in case you don't recognize it) when I was '49. So, yeah, I've had the soft easy life.

So, all cards on the table Vog. How do you stack up? Lets hear it now. Loud and clear. I think you have the equipment to make yourself heard.
