Hi everyone,
I have a friend who is Czech and keeps an eye on economic issues there that the rest of the world pays little attention to.
One indicator that's a big deal over there is the Cesky Brod Import Index. Apparently it's been around for a couple of hundred years and people use it to forecast future economic conditions quite successfully.
The index has been hovering in the high fifties over the past year or so (don't ask me how it's calculated, because apparently it's some big secret). But my friend told me yesterday that the figure set to come out at the end of this week is not looking good. Insiders are predicting that it will be in forties, or maybe the high thirties.
As I said, people in the Czech Republic have been using this Index for decades. Why nobody else has heard of it, I have no idea.
Regards,
WHB
