Plotting OOIP discovered against time?

Unread postby Joe0Bloggs » Fri 04 Nov 2005, 21:10:06

Where can someone find a plot of the total OOIP of oil wells discovered in each year in the past?

Oh and does OOIP get revised up all the time like URR or not?

Somewhere here I gave the definitions and a cooks tour of how OOIP, URR, P1, proven, probable etc. terms all fit together.
If the "evidence" is exceptional when a field is discovered OOIP should be a decent number. However that is not always the case. Often after a few wells have been drilled it is found the field is either larger or smaller for one reason or another (if you want me to go into a diatribe on this I can...might bore you though). As a consequence early in a fields history the OOIP can change. As we run into new technologies such as 3D seismic etc. there can also be changes to OOIP.
The question you ask is very fundamental however...... if you know the OOIP then it is much easier to reconcile the various other reserve numbers. That being said trying to get authenticated OOIP numbers is quite difficult.

I ask this question because someone here seems to be trying to run a model using OOIP as input. It would help if he actually had OOIP as input ;)

BTW why was this moved to 'welcome'? It may seem to be a simple question but as you pointed out it is a fundamental question and as far as I can see it has not been answered yet...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')t would help if he actually had OOIP as input

Ahhh...there's the rub.....trying to deciver what numbers are what in the press etc. are difficult. If you are a neophyte to the world of annual report reading it is also easy to get confused.
Word to the wise....buyer beware.

Actually, looking more closely at his model, it seems that it is only necessary to have the current best estimate of the world's OOIP, discovered and undiscovered. Should be much easier?
