Peak Oil - problem solved!

Unread postby Jack » Wed 11 May 2005, 22:39:32

Yes, it's true! A cornucopian delight is upon us, and all our problems are solved. No more gloom, no more doom - yes, we have in our grasp an infinite source of clean, safe energy! We have the solution to escaping the bonds of fossil fuels, and of ending global warming!

At this point, you - as wise critical thinkers - will surely mention that some small bit of proof would be nice. I shall not disappoint.

At this LINK

The video - nearly two hours of it - discusses UFO technology. According to the speaker, the CIA has lots of UFO technology that will do all of the aforementioned and more besides!

Now you will notice that I offer no numbers at all. Neither does the video. But what the hey, they believe our problems are solved, so why should any of us question them?

Those perceptive enough to think that I am being facetious are to be complimented upon their perceptions!

Numbers? We don't need no stinkin' numbers!

Wow. Your ideas intrigue me. I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Just one question though, why haven't they already done it? I mean... they could charge whatever the hell they want... so loss of money can't be a factor. What could possibly be stopping them from doing all tihs wonderful, world saving stuff? Could it be that they just want to see how far they can push it before they really have to get it done?
We've tried nothin' and we're all out of ideas.

I'm glad to see you're not a doomer!

The real reason for the delay is that they're perfecting the process. And raising investment captial - unfortunately, all those gloom and doomers lack the vision you and I have.

But not to worry! The problem is solved!

I think I shall motor around the neighborhood in my red lamborghini, tossing 100 dollar bills (along with some stale MRE's) to an adoring public.

Here's a picture of me with some friends.

I'm not saying Dubya, and the aliens are in cohoots, but c'mon....

Sometimes things are just too obvious.

Hallelujah! The good news keeps coming.

I just sold my 5 acre organic farm to some doomers who still believe in "Peak Oil." Haha!

Ah-ha! Photographic evidence! Now who can argue with that - other than some doom and gloomer (or is it gloom and doomer? whatever.)

I tell you, we don't need to worry about EROEI when we have credible photographic proof that space alien cornucopians are here to deliver us from peak oil!

That’s funny Jack! The thinking of the UFO crowd you posted reminds me of the DOOMERS on other fronts! Not a clue but boy can they spin a tale! Oh well, pity for both I suppose but one thing I can at least say for the UFO crowd is they aren’t running around saying the world is going to end soon like all the religious freaks that have been standing on the street corners with their signboards have been for decades.

You know …. knda like the black helicopter & contrail crowd! I just look at them all and say OUCH, its gotta suck to be you! Too Funny!

Truly, the black helicopter and contrail proponents are laughable. They offer the most absurd premises, utterly lacking any foundation in truth, totally without any numeric foundation - and, due merely to zeal, they expect others to be convinced. As you point out, they are laughed at.

I recall one confidence man from years ago. He was peddling shares in a company that produced a fluid that (supposedly) would clean aluminum in preparation for painting (aluminum oxide is difficult to remove), would kill fleas (Yep. That was the claim), was perfectly safe and noncorrosive - and several other preposterous claims. He mistook my smile for approval; actually, I could scarcely restrain my laughter. That's generally my reaction to those who make extreme claims that cannot be true and certainly are not substantiated. Of course, wisdom is required to differentiate between smiling approval and a mocking smirk - but frauds seldom possess wisdom. Surely you'll agree.

Still, those who misguide and mislead serve a useful purpose. The fools who accept their tales will be more likely to err; and clever folks can take advantage of their error.

Polls consistently show that most people believe we are being visited by space aliens (sigh...). A belief encouraged by the gov't.
So here's how they could use this: We wipe out the rest of the world, somehow, but then we need someone to blame. (911, who, me??) So they cook up a good-looking alien who meets with President Ah-nold and explains how this was a tragic mistake - they were just testing their new warp drive or something - and the aliens are very sorry. They fly off and are never seen again.
Americans would believe this in a heartbeat........

A) “Frauds” seldom possess “wisdom”??? You’ve gotta be joking here? How many people are duped by frauds again every year and have been since the beginning of time? For instance, there are either two billion Christians duped by fraud or 1 billion Muslims duped by fraud, or….. all three billion have been duped by fraud like I believe. That’s just one example!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')till, those who misguide and mislead serve a useful purpose. The fools who accept their tales will be more likely to err; and clever folks can take advantage of their error.

You are absolutely correct here, the misguided and mislead are ALWAYS taken advantage of in one way or another, like for instance look at the giant list of people who believe in Michael Moore even though he has been proven repeatedly to be a liar, fraud, & cheat! Still many, many people hang on his every word like he is their savior or something! Of course, others write honestly about issues and get many to believe in their spin but they don’t always show all of the information either like many of the doomers over the years, some are not so honest at all and laugh all the way to the bank also.

How many “fools” are being duped right now by those “clever folks” selling doomer style books & videos even though they are only telling one side of the story on many issues including oil?

Wisdom is not intelligence, nor does intelligence necessarily imply wisdom.

There was a book published some time ago - DOW 36,000 was the title - that suggested the stock market would go to ever greater heights. To date, they have proven to be wrong.

You make the assertion that "doomer style" books and videos dupe fools to purchase them; but you do not offer a detailed refutation of the Peak Oil premise. Neither do you offer detailed analysis of how the lack of cheap oil will be offset by alternative energy solutions such as you have posted. And the underlying issue of Peak Oil has a scientific basis - it has made successful predictions. Without the detailed numbers, we are reduced to the sad state of two fortune tellers disputing the effect of Saturn in the third house.

I'm glad we have the vision and intelligence to agree. Clearly anyone who disagrees with what we believe must be an idiot.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ut not to worry! The problem is solved!

Really??? Great thanks, for a second there I was worried. But if you say there's no problem, then I believe you. I don't need numbers or data to prove it to me. The fact that you are not a doomer is good enough for me. I was going to plant some vegetables today, but I was afraid you would think I was some sort of doomer for doing that, so I didn't bother. Instead I sat back and did nothing, leaving the government to look after us; after all, they're doing such a wonderful job as it is.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') think I shall motor around the neighborhood in my red lamborghini, tossing 100 dollar bills (along with some stale MRE's) to an adoring public.

*Gushes* Yeah... fast cars are sooooo COOL. The more fuel they consume the better.

Hunhhhhhh!?! What!?!??

Everything I have has been invested based on this brilliant text. Are you saying the authors don't know what they are talking about? Are you saying that the DOW ISN"T GOING TO HIT 36,000! Aargh!!!! I feel so used.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')'m waiting to see what the mood will be when the pace of events quickens and the warning lights come on.

Dude, what are you talking about? Everything's fine. Aren't you a millionaire yet? The greatness of America will prevail; it always has, and therefore always will, and that is good enough for me.
