I'm not that much of a gamer, but I remember I loved to play so-called "strategy games", you know, where you have to build a city or an empire and make sure that the economy runs smoothly.

Peak Oil has all the ingredients for such a game.
-geopolitical tension
-clear economic logic
-a direct impact on peoples lives
-potential for war
-a multitude of energy sources to play with (from renewables to nuclear)
etc....

I was just thinking: WIBNI someone made a game set in some Western suburbia with the goal of keeping the neighborhood alive?

This would be a great educational tool to convince people of a younger generation to use energy in a smart way, etc...

We need sponsors. What does George Soros think of Peak Oil?

I was planning on making games for a living once I finish college(I know, great game plan with PO, don't worry there's always a plan B for me), so I might keep this in mind.
I'll title it Depletion Wars or something like that.

I am a programmer, and I've been thinking about making a small game since I never made one before. It would probably be freeware, but I have considered a peak oil strategy game.

Interesting idea. I've thought for some time that the best way to raise awareness about peak oil would be through entertainment. A movie or miniseries? A novel? A fictional blog?

A SimCity-type game could be really cool, and go partway to showing the problems we'll face. Or maybe something like The Sims.

Games are the hot new way to get your message out. The Army has a free shooter game they use to help recruitment. And the UN World Food Program has a free game called "Food Force" to teach people about world hunger.
