RTE the Irish national television station aired this 1 hour documentary on the coming oil crisis last night. It was on prime time TV and was hosted by the stations Economics correspondent, one of the most respected correspondents in the country.

Enjoy,

Thanks for that.

I wonder if there has been any viewer response to the program?

Thanks, I wanted something more 'British' (I know it's Irish not British, but close enough lol) to show people here, maybe they can relate more, and it will show this is not just a state side problem as many of my friends like to say.

This show is very significant IMO, especially for Ireland. Because of the source (national station and emminent presenter), it will not be dismissed. The great thing is I've had people coming up to me for the last 2 days saying they were thinking of me when they were watching the show. I've mentioned before in posts that my peak oil message was helping me to lose friends and uninfluence people.

I've had 6 new members to my website, hurray.

This show could be what gives Ireland the impetus to make big strides in renewable energy helped by the fact that we have 2 Green party members in Cabinet holding the Environment and Resources portfolios.

I liked when he asked the people with the apartment in Turkey, what they would do if it became too expensive to travel there.

"Oh, we'ld have to sell it I suppose" was the reply. My question was who do they think would buy it???

I think investing in that part of the world is madness even before PO is taken into account.

Yes, I watched it the other night when it was on. I was very impressed - succinct, to the point and relatively doomerish. The bit I found most terrifying was that Irish people use their cars 30% more than Americans (or something similar - I'm sick at the moment so am not functioning at full capacity).

Thumbs up from me.

Thank you for posting this video. It is very well put together, not some cheesy video at all. The first fifteen minutes are pretty disappointing by being slow and repetitive. It seems like they say "Peak Oil" a hundred times before explaining what it is.

I wish they would have spent (more) time addressing so-called alternatives to oil, explaining how they won't bring down the cost and impact.

Perhaps if I'm really lucky someone will post an abridged version somewhere, for the ADHD addled.

I hoped George Lee would have dismissed hydrogen, etc as being alternatives to oil but he only had 1 hour. Also, he is already perceived as a bit of a doom merchant nationally ie. he is always warning about the property bubble, too much unsecured debt etc. He's probably afraid of being seen as some sort of a crank.

He'ld make a great contributor to this site don't you think...

You guys are going to like this...

The show was on Monday night and lots of people were talking about it Tuesday, saying things like "we really need to do something" and "let's switch to renewables and be more efficient".

By yesterday, when I dropped the name George Lee, the response was "don't mention that f*cking ahole" and "Jaysus, he's going to talk the country into recession" and "George Lee is always moaning about something".

Welcome to the world of the PO aware George.

Peak Oil awareness has all the trappings of an embarrassing and unpleasant medical condition.

It's the type of thing they write in red ink in our army medical record books.

I like it :). Problem is that is too honest, there's a whole new generation out there, that follows the motto "Born to shop". They can't process this, and for the few ones that can, when they start realizing what goes on, the control memes say: is just entertainment or wild especulation, is not for real, nothing will bother you; and so they go.

It's too bad that there's no downloadable avi. I hate RealPlayer. What if you don't want to watch it on a computer monitor? Oh well.

It's too bad RealPlayer isn't compatible with 64-bit OS.
