Peak Lies

Unread postby Alnitaka » Wed 21 Jun 2006, 22:56:15

In my opinion, the problem is not so much peak oil as peak lies. Or maybe not, because lies are increasing and I see no peak in sight. I found this quote today. Either someone is lying or else 1.9 = -0.3 and -3.7 = 1.4, and if that's the case, I should not be concerned about my investments losing 30% of their value, because that means they will have gained by 90%.

Here is the quote:

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The American Petroleum Institute said motor gasoline supplies fell 1.9 million barrels for the week ended June 16, contrary to the Energy Department's reported increase of 300,000 barrels. Crude inventories were down 3.7 million barrels. The government report had showed an increase of 1.4 million. Distillate stocks rose 1.9 million barrels, the API said, nearly matching the Energy Department's 1.9 million-barrel increase.

That's the spirit.
There is NO Peak Oil.

A recent discovery shows that the earth is a big bubble of oil, surrounded by thicker enveloper which is the ground we live on.
There is plenty of oil to last for millions of years.

Not to mention they recently struck oil on the Moon.

Nasa also plans to send a man to the Sun.
But they will send him during the night, so he won't get burned.

Yeah I have noticed as well the whole nomenclature issue. Kinda ticks me off. I mean if the US was invaded and Bush killed/captured, even though I don't like him, I'd still be pissed off and taking up arms to kill the invaders. I would be a freedom fighter, and a "terrorist/insurgent" in the occupier's eyes.

I heard a funny quote from Bill O' Riley yesterday. He was basically saying that if he was in control of Iraq, he'd have no mercy. Curfew at 7:00 and everyone out after that would get shot right between the eyes. Sounds an awful lot like Saddam's rule... Oh wait, that would mean we would have been better off leaving it alone. ;)

Rising gasoline demand helps push crude prices higher after inventories show surprisingly small increase.

I'm so confused.

But I guess that's the idea, huh?

Yes, I'd also like to know why there's such a difference. It seems like a rather large discrepancy to be a common trend.

Although, the inventory numbers are estimates and not hard fact, so that could cause a large difference between agencies. So maybe it is the norm.

Which numbers do the traders look at?

I think you have to view any branch of the Bush government with a healthy dose of skepticism. The numbers coming from them are going to have a heavy spin if they're not outright lies. They lie so often I wonder if they even know what facts, honesty, or truth are anymore.

Julian Simon beat everyone to the punch several years ago:

Most amazing is that most of this specific body of knowledge was developed within just the past two centuries or so, though it rests, of course, on basic knowledge that had accumulated for millennia.

Well anyone or anybody actually can. It's just that everyone can't. You will always need more serfs/peons (people who actually do the work) than rich landlords or kings :)

However the spin is that everyone coming to America ends up with huge $$ living in a Mc Mansion. :roll:

Still even working a poorly paid job in the US is better than a sweat shop in say Mexico or some Latin American country.

Having done the rounds at TOD I think the "peak lie" of the moment is the EIA report for the 2006 outlook.

Its GREAT !!

In order to meet the demands of the future all we have to do is hope the places in decline are able to cling on to their current production levels (for the next 24 years ! ) or are able to squeeze even more of the black stuff from the ground at ever increasing rates !!

Even today the news from Kuwait seems to be "Well dont look at us ! We're going to be out of go-juice in 40 years at this rate and even sooner if we increase production". So much for counting on them ! At least the PIW report seems to have been vindicated.

If thats the efffect of the "80s" revisions I cant wait to see the blowout thats coming elsewhere in the OPEC club.

Only question is now , if Kuwait is going to put the blocks on expanding their output what will the market make of it ?

Sometimes I have my doubts on the whole raft of stats the government sets out.

* Unemployment Rate & Jobs created/lost
* Inflation rate
* GDP

Anyone else thinks that some of these and other stats are being monkeyed with?

"Which numbers do the traders look at?"

The traders don't actually bid the price up until something blows up, Iran's leader gets misquoted on fox news, or a hurricane season shows up. :lol:

DOE has been heavily referenced by the trading corner thread.

So if Peak Oil is a lie...are you going to continue screwing the environment with your current way of life just because there is no peak?

OK, I am just assuming Alnitaka does not care.

Am I wrong?

What ever.
