I think it has been shown that the growth paradigm conflicts with round planet reality (that wacko Galileo!), but i think few people really live on one planet, instead living e.g. on Euro-planet and vacationing occasionally in Asia-planet.
The wonderous daily inflow of new oil/timber/food comes from outside many peoples 'planets' - outside the world they can comprehend and appreciate. To such a world view, infinite growth is not so hard to believe. Its certainly easy enough to wish for, anyway, without having to believe its entirely possible.
The defensive processes of denial & religious faith (deified or technological) are IMHO nicely covered by Jason here
http://energybulletin.net/3948.html , and its great to encounter & see these understandings developing; wonder if us 'conspiracy theorists' will reach a Comprehensive Theory of Everything before the physicists?
This msg then is definately 'outside the box' for many; getting it across to signif #' s of ppl may be aided by some simple & robust analogies, or if you prefer, stories or parables.
E.g. A pal & i considered setting up a sealed mouse farm as a public art instalation, limited food, most labelled 'from Oil', track pop increase, overshoot, ..). (abandoned cos animal lib-ers pretty active here, and we're not at all arty).
Theres Jay Hanson's (or Catton's?) village well example for overshoot.. Be nice if there was a common set of similar analogies for peaking, net energy, hydrogen as energy source. If all using same stories to explain how these work, 'our' message would penetrate better.
I'm not promising such stories would turn the tide, but if TSHTF they could be even more useful paradigm expanders: 'Old world view cost you everything? Try NEW Thermodynamic Reality! Learn as you dig, six easy stories explaining why your staid parents were wacko's!'
