Pain sucks but it sure wakes you up. Drugs are good for very short term (day or two only). Course I'm never suffered horrible 3rd degree burns over 90% of my body or anything but barring that I don't plan to ever take drugs for more than a day or two.

Think of the positives: 1) It went well. 2) It happened pre-post peak. Imagine if this had happened post-peak or if your wrist surgery didn't go well. Then you'd be screwed as far as home tasks, gardening, chopping wood, etc.

I cracked some ribs once. They gave me opiates. Turned out that 800mgs ibuprofen worked better. Gotta watch that stuff though, it's bad for the liver. The obscene cost of modern medicine is a sign that it's not working right. What good is marvelous medical progress if it bankrupts us?

I have broken my left wrist 4 times now, I was told the last time by a doctor that if i break it again (or perhaps just in the future) I will need metal pins and perhaps a plate due to all of the fracturing.

I can hear it from time to time cracking when I rotate it. So nothing by sympathy from me.

Can you get into the military if you've broken your wrist 4 times? Man, that sucks. When I cracked my ribs it hurt like hell. That was the only time I ever broke any bones and it was once too often. If you break a wrist or an arm bone or something you can try to keep it still. But with cracked ribs, you still have to breathe. Every breath aggravates the pain.

I heard back about a little more than three weeks ago that I couldn't get in due to my wrist (which might have gotten waived) if they didn't also state they weren't taking prior service that need medical waivers. It appears that too many soldiers are re-upping and they are getting more of their preferred 18 year old snot nosed kids.

So I have been pretty pissed for a while now. Kind of started accepting it now. I really wanted to go back in, i miss the army, I knew my place there, I was happy there, I have not been happy since.

I am thinking about going into the AmeriCorps vista program and teaching inner city kids technology. There are a few other programs that involved traveling to other countries, which might be something to do.

sorry for whining in your post tank

Sorry for your disappointment, jay. We kid around, but I would prefer your goals were attained. I'm sure Frank doesn't mind. We're talking about a subject that he brought up. BTW, my son was one of four at his college ROTC program to get a full Navy scholarship. He's thrilled, I'm thrilled. There were hundreds of applicants. He wants to be a nuclear technician on a aircraft carrier or a nuclear powered submarine. Assuming the world doesn't fall apart in the next three years he'll go in as an officer. When I think of what a numskull I was at his age, I'm amazed.

I fell several hundred feet down a talus field the afternoon of Dec 3 1993. Eleven broken bones including what the orthopedic surgeon said was the worst Maisonneuve fracture he'd ever seen. The only thing holding my right foot on was the skin. It took 5.5 hours to pin me back together. I was in physical therapy for 18 months before I could walk without crutches.
I know about pain, and I know the importance of PAIN RELIEF.

Pain lasted 48hrs... Haven't taken anything since Thursday night -- all good now except for some tenderness... Don't have a cast, just a splint type thing...want to unwrap it and look at the $20k/$30K damage? :) Bring on the bills!

I broke four ribs at the sawmill when I was 40. I'm fifty now. It took forever to heal, and hurt like heck. I'm sorry for you....

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'I') had a tooth extracted Wednesday. I have dry socket. They gave me opiates, which I am supposed to take every 4-6 hours. They only relieve the pain for 3 hours. It's pretty bad pain. I'm having a hard time being nice to my son.
You could tell him about it and say that mommy will be nice again real soon. I'm sure that would work and it would give him the chance to be understanding and feel the importance of his own attitudes. A growing experience.

He's like "yeah, yeah, whatever..."
Ouch, bored indifference is not good. Maybe you should lock him in the basement for a while. Feed him bread and water. Play the evil queen. Before long he'll be saying "mommy, please be nice again." Then you can say, "you didn't even care that I was in pain." "I'm sorry, mommy. Really, I'm sorry!" Give him a doubtful look.

Ouch! That sounds like a long haul.

I had to look up talus field. The pictures I saw looked to me like avalanche or slide areas, but they're actually natural formations and the pieces of rock are made smaller by erosion, if I understand it correctly.

Falls are bad, especially as one gets older. I know of a woman my age (50) who had a bad fall on the ice a couple of weeks ago, fell face first and broke the bones on the right side of her face in six places.
