The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

"Peak Oil News and Message Boards is a community and collaboration portal about energy-related topics."

is what I found Pops, is this what you mean?

Peak Oil News and Message Boards is a community portal dedicated to
the global, regional, and personal aspects of petroleum supply not meeting demand on a sporadic and eventually permanent basis.

There is a shot at it Pops.

Frankly, that splash page sucks crap. It doesn't get the message across that the best evidence says we just peaked or will soon peak.

It reads much more like some old bored guy is reading aloud from a velvet crush lounge chair.

My opinion is that it would be much better if it moved substantially more toward the LATOC intro. Now THAT grabs you.

Noted.

Do you have anything somewhat more constructive to offer or was that bit of American Idol criticism your best effort?

I sometimes wonder if people just come here because there is nothing on tv...

How about replacing the info-graphs with some current production and consumption graphs to show the apparent 2005 peak. Overlaying oil price with the production/consumption "gap" might be enlightening.

I've gotten a few to at-least understand what I'm saying, when I said "We hit 85.1 MBPD in December 2005 & we'll never hit that record again".

(not even sure if that number or date is fully accurate, but it doesn't matter)...When people hear "running out of oil" they tune you out right there. 1 short N sweet sentence (like mine above) seems to (atleast) keep people tuned in.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes.

Tell you what Pops - I'll write the whole intro page - it will be killer.

Only thing is, if I submit it to you, and you choose to use it, you use it verbatim, with not a single editorial change.

To the point, you wanted input on this:

(Title)"Peak Oil News"
(Summary)"Peak Oil News and Message Boards is a community and collaboration portal about energy-related topics."

That sucks worse than the intro page bore-fest.

Here's my suggested replacement:

(Title)Peak Oil, The Event, The Impact

(Summary) Peak Oil: The Most Important Event in History

Use all, part, or not any of that bit. The point is not to tell the Googler what the site is about. The point is to get the Googler to click on the link.

Crap, as I clarified in my second post (now edited in my first) I was talking about Our Intro...

Submit what you want PG but if you want total control, I would suggest starting your own site.

Come on Pops, I don't want total control.

I don't want any control, in fact.

All I said was, if I submit something, you exert total control to either use it unaltered or don't use it at all. I've read enough of your posts to know that you are one of the few men who could abide by such a deal.

How is that me wanting total control?

Anyway, clearly not in the cards, so sorry to have bothered you.

The two Simmons quotes don't work either.

The Irish beer analogy, while quite funny with regard to the drunken party being over, does not create an image that represents Peak Oil.

A life raft lost in an endless sea is more like it.

But you can't just find those sorts of prosaic gems just lying on the floor of some bulletin board room.
