$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ut I do expect you to concentrate on the moment, because you don't know anything at all about your live in 10 or 15 years time, or 1 or 2 years time, or even in the very present moment. And you have missed the very reason for living in focusing on what you call the "future."

I see your point. For instance tonight I was driving back from the pistol range . I saw someone I knew parked by the road, and glanced to the side. When I looked back, there was a car driving straight towards me on the highway. They were following another car that had just overtaken, but they hadn't seen me. I had to pull right off the highway at 90 k an hour to avoid hitting them head on. If I hadn't been paying attention or was just a bit slower, I could have been killed.

I still think you can do both though- live for the moment, make the most of each day, and still plan a little bit for the future.

How about moderation in all things? Living in the moment is essential to having a fulfilling, spontanious life, but that only gets you so far. I know, I've tried it. While it's true that your life may be snuffed out by chance or circumstance at any given moment, responsibility and logic dictate that you must also plan for the future. Just because it's sunny out right now doesn't mean it's a bad idea to keep an umrella in your car or by the front door.

What I would propose is an even balance. Do plan for the end if you wish, stockpile to your hearts content. Invest in gold and oil. Build your cabin in the woods. Pay off your debt. But don't forget to also do something as often as possible to let yourself know that you're alive right now. While this site has a lot of space dedicated to 'what if' and 'when' there are things to be done today to ease our transition to whatever future we make for ourselves.
