Oil & Gas Campus Recruiting

Unread postby Whitecrab » Mon 27 Sep 2004, 22:24:59

It's the time again, the companies are out in force, and I've been having a great time. :D Asked the Shell people what'll happen when the Alberta Tar Sands run out of stranded gas (they said they actually use all physical mining, so a lack of gas doesn't affect them), and asked if they'd ever heard of Hubbert - of course they hadn't. :(

I asked some Enbridge gas reps if there were really problems in North America, and one guy told me we're using LNG for convienience, because you can order it on demand whenever in the season you want!

Exxon-Mobile people still seem pretty geared up, had a nice little video about how important oil and gas is in people's lives. Seems to be like most people, at least the kind of "just graduated" people they send on these tours, have never heard of or thought seriously of peak oil. I'll try the Petrocanada people on Wednesday, but, yeah right!

...by the by, if I was to apply to an oil and gas company for a summer or job, anyone have any suggestions which one's the best/worst working environment? Peaking or no, I imagine it's one industry that will be kept afloat for most of my lifetime, so I may want to try it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'i')f I was to apply to an oil and gas company for a summer or job...

Depends on your education/background.

Nukes, hydro and wind are your best bet. I know, these are not oil&gas. Then try tar sands (Petrocanada). Also, try any electric utility (again, not oil&gas). Sorry, mate.

Cheers,
