OFF TOPIC

Unread postby medicvet » Fri 19 Aug 2005, 20:51:56

lord help me. i'm an fng here. but there isn't an off-topic thread in an off topic line here?

this is an oversight that needs to be corrected.

I am not a survivalist. I am not a buyer into biblical end prophecy. I do not believe that Harry Potter's popularity is the sign of the end times.

HOWEVER. I do believe in psychic bullshit. 'cus I'm 'gifted', whatever the fuck that means. To me, it means that I know shit.. what I do or don't do, for that matter, are something entirely different.

I have decided to listen to my gut instincts and apply them in my practical life however, and that has happened only recently for me. I am a somewhat educated, militarily trained, and severely fucked up person who like anne, still believed in the good in man. She wrote in in an attic while he screamed his words out to millions. Guess whose words are still listened to overall?

So on that basis alone, I do happen to believe there is hope for us.

This 'place'..this site on the internet does not have one thing. A 'social' forum. I happen to think that is VERY important, simply because of the level of intelligence of the people who post here. No compliments here; I am simply being practical. I happen to think a place to gather in a purely social setting is of the utmost important here.

We are sharing our knowledge and experience. On some level, we are communicating on a social level..but. We are not communicating on that level to begin to form bonds that surpass the bounds of miles...

we need to do that. I do know that Peak Oil is going to happen, because of what I have read that has resonated and struck a chord within me. Call it what you will..part of what I have learned in my life is that when my gut talks it is really time for me to listen. So as hokey as it may sound, I know I have found a true online community of fellows...that have the same goal...not just survival..but trying to LIVE in this upcoming time of trial. Because after all, if we can't LIVE, what the fuck are we living for?

I know I am probably sounding pretty damn dramatic..but this is some dramatic shit..even though it is true.

I have seen and read a lot. I have no degrees 'n shit..but I know smarts when I look it in the eye. This site is the best I have seen in two years of looking. for what? for some godamn common sense. I may not have a degree, but I can know that when I see it.

So why start an 'off topic' in off topic? because we need to get to know each other personally...because we need to hold on tight to and maintain our humanity..come what may..

that's why.

and I guess I started it.

My name is amy. this is me..why I came here..why I plan on staying..learning..trying to contribute in any way I can..

this is a personal thread..let's get to know each other..you never know when friends in another state across the nation..hell, even in another country..might come in handy..

so let's get the ball rolling, ya know?

and if I have fucked up by doing this, please forgive me..yer damn straight I had some 'dutch courage' in doin it..I had to..cus this is the most serious post I think I have ever made in my life.

Wazzup?

As I write this, I indulge in a pint of Heineken. What were you drinking when you wrote? Haha, I'm just kidding. Wow, this really was a dramatic post though, if a little incoherent. But I think I can understand what you're trying to say.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 't')his is a personal thread..let's get to know each other..you never know when friends in another state across the nation..hell, even in another country..might come in handy..

I don't know what to say about myself without sounding overbearingly depressing about it. I like anime, PC games and fiction. I hate just about everything else.

I'm from New England and I want to move. The place is a refrigerator for half a year. I'm sensitive to the cold, so I consider the fall to be Winter: Part 1. I'm a Comm major in college, and can't wait to get out of it. College sucks. My slow ass realized that two years late. :x

Ok, I'm done.

oh good lord..my bad.. I think I will. I was indulging in a rarity for me..a twelve pack of my personal favorite microbrew. pyramid apricot ale. sounds horrendous, i know. well, been a busy day, doing the fall cleaning, and eight ale's later, i got the silly idea that a forum established by intelligent people would not have a social part to it.

Social interaction, or relationships, are what will always carry us forward into a meaningful life despite circumstances good or bad. That fact sometimes appears to be missed here, but it is not.

Tomorrow when you wake up and read the responses you wonder, Oh shit was I drunk when I wrote this - and the worst - it is a public forum, sort of like having sex with strangers, ya know...

Happend to me quite a few times (posting free flowing messages like you just did) and LET ME TELL YA, it nonetheless was the most important post you ever placed. You spoke the truth. No regrets here, please. This is a forum of another kind, yes....

Welcome at home, since this IS our new home!

Now, medicvet, albente has ingrained your image to us. I am full of longing! Seriously though, I rarely post out of this open forum because I regard it as exactly what you are calling for: a social page. Here it is. I've done what I can to make it happen, give us your best. You know what i hate?
That we cant just fuckin get along. I dont mean in Off Topic, I dont mean on PO, I mean as a damned species.

Prime example, I want my guns and I dont want taxes. A die hard liberal might not want guns and want taxes.

Isnt it stupid we cant find a middle ground somewhere? Isnt it stupid France cant find a middle ground with America? isnt it stupid China cant find a middle ground with Taiwan?

What the fuck do we have politicians for, if they cannot bring us closer as a species but rather work to divide us.

Ya know Spec, it can be done. We just have to realize that we all have a common enemy: ourselves. Then we will be able to see the forest for threes and fix this planet and then go searching for more for when our sun decides to give up the fight. Or if we'd like, just live sustainably here as long as possible.

No my friend, we cant. Theres just some issues people will not budge on, no matter what.
I'm as guilty as the next guy, but point is on some issues people WONT try to compromise at all.
Thats just the way it is.

Yeah. I'll admit on most points I could budge, but for me an example would be gun rights. Obviously, someone like Sarah Brady (Of the Brady Campagin (Bunch)) isnt about to budge and say I can own guns. She wants them all banned, I want the ability to own them all. Neither one of us will budge.
And it goes on, some with medical care (Socialized vs Private), some with operation of business, some with foreign diplomacy etc etc.

Such is the way of humanity i suppose.

haha!

Well, thanks for not making me feel so bad, and yeah I read over what I wrote, and good lord but I was kinda rambling there..thanks for being kind. :-D

I downloaded the peakspeak thing but I don't have a microphone so I guess I will be limited to text for the time being, that is if I can figure out how to work it now that I got it. I am not exactly the most computer savvy person there is, to put it mildly!

As a matter of fact, I am really glad that computer technology and the like is taught in classes these days. To give you an idea of how old I am, when I was in high school it was still called 'typing', not 'keyboarding. ;)

I'm a single mom with two kids, one of each, so I'm done. I have a daughter who will be 17 on the 30th of this month, so of course she knows everything, and a son who is 13, who is well on his way to knowing everything as well, lol.

Having just recently learned about PO and trying to take it all in, I am wishing that I had known about this earlier so I could encourage my children to learn things in certain fields that they could possibly develop a career interest in. As it is, my daughter plans on being a counselor for troubled kids, and my son wants to be an architect.

However, at least both have been involved in FFA and 4H, and are familiar with how to work with livestock, and that could come in handy someday. Although I have had a 'black thumb', perhaps that trend is breaking, because my houseplants have actually managed to last a few months under my tender loving care, and I am going to give it a shot at putting a garden in my back yard come the spring.

I might see about getting a microphone for the computer around the beginning of the month as I have looked and they don't cost too much, and then have some fun with it.

Anyway, it is great to meet ya'll.
