$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('neocone', 'W')ell.. relative consumption of oil to produced oil will always be 100% so there will be all the economic activity that there can be.
Doesn't mean a Mad Max world and the end of civilization. To the contrary we are back on the Moon (maybe extracting Helium 3 for a thermonuclear reactor) in 2020 and a 1 mile high skyscrapper is slated to be finished soon.

The largest, grandest monuments to civilization are usually built right before a collapse of some kind. Dubai is no exception.

As for space elevators and commercial lunar production of He3, I have run out of enough tinfoil to believe in anything like that.

It is remarkable to find anyone at this stage of the game who seriously believes the world (U.S. included) isn't experiencing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression (if not even worse than that).

World stock markets have lost half their value over the past twelve months. Nearly every nation's economy is in contraction. One former first world country--Iceland--has been completely bankrupted overnight. Unemployment has been rising everywhere since the start of this year. Manufacturing orders are severly down. The auto industry is nearly bankrupt. Housing markets around the globe are falling. Central banks are taking unprecendented measures to stave off financial collapse. Greenspan, Buffet, Volcker, Darling and every other financial VIP in world has agreed that the economic crisis is significant and will likely get worse.

Oil prices are nearly irrelevant at this point. The economic crisis we face is so deeply systemic that even $1 bbl oil wouldn't save us. This is a macrocyclical terminal phase that will take years to complete and restart. Anyone extrapolating from an abnormally rosy local view should take a closer look at the global picture.

If you're workin, it's fine. If you just got the pink slip, it's a global depression. That's how it is.
