Nine meals from anarchy

This was posted on another forum that I frequent. It is a gathering place for work at home people. If they are seeing it and talking, mainstream is starting to pay attention.

Good find.

Quite a number of years ago, the locale I live in had an unusual snow storm. Within a single day, the shelves were starting to look notably bare.

Those who don't have a minimum of a week's sustenance should think long and hard about their lack of preparation.

The woman who posted it is one of the admins on the site. Someone said they could not finish reading the article because it scared her. (I have a strong suspition that the admin is peak oil aware and trying to use a backdoor approach.) The admins response?

"This might sound odd but I WANT YOU TO BE SCARED! I want everybody to be scared because if you are, you'll do something to stay ahead of what's happening.

Oil is tied to every single thing we do every single day. Even if gas is always available, the prices of everything you buy now is going up at a scary rate. I want everybody to be doing as much as they can now while food is still "cheap". Hey, it's not going to be any cheaper than it is right now at this rate.

It would be heartbreaking to see posts here by people on "meal number 8" or what should have been meal number 12."

This is a well written article - good for the less prepared people who need a clear and concise description of the breadth of the problem.

There is little point pointing out that so many other things are petrochemical dependent, when basic food shortage scenarios can illustrate the problem with more effectiveness.

Is it a good thing for more people to become aware. Nothing any one does will stop PO. If hundreds of millions of people start preparing, then no one will have enough to prepare with.

Just a thought.

Wow. Who is going to decide who gets to prepare and who doesn't? Just a reflex thought.

Excuse me?

My response was in response to "Is it a good thing for more people to become aware. Nothing any one does will stop PO. If hundreds of millions of people start preparing, then no one will have enough to prepare with." from vetusfirma.

I know I have to decide; I have. I know I have to prepare; I am. I talk to friends and family and they are preparing. I did not care for vetusfirma insinuating that if too many people prepare, there won't be enough to go around.

My mentality is just fine. Thank you for checking. :)

from the article...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 't')'s not just a matter of cost, either, but of real shortages. In the U.S., supplies of rice are so low that retail giant WalMart has been rationing the amount any one customer can buy.

i do not know about where you live, but this is not the case at our local walmart.

Before I go to bed I need to chime in and add one thing:

It don't matter what is on the shelf at the market if there was no check in your pay envelope last week.

Quite a few folks will find their envelope empty next month and they felt pretty sassy last.

Get in your 10th meal now and start figuring from where your 100th and 1,000th is coming.
