neo-anarchism

Unread postby Teclo » Thu 03 Nov 2005, 07:35:25

Anarchists are a much misunderstood bunch. We're not quite like the stereotype of a petrol bomb throwing thug. The latest trend is toward a kind of democratic anarcho-communism

This movement is likely to pester the government in the event of some kind of oil bust. But unlike the rioters who have no alternative and are actually expressing their fustration without knowing why, us anarchists are more articulate

For a start this is an evolution of ideas with post-capitalist/communist hindsight. Individualist anarchism has no concept of organisation, this is why the Bolsheviks took control and the anarchists lost out in Russia

This is where neo-anarchism supports the idea of society as a collective whole. This is the democratic ideal of individuals making an input into collective governance, and is why violent revolution is a dead end because its a small group imposing on the majority in a mirror image of the same system that needs renewal

On the other hand anarchists have always been small government supporters. Communism Bolshevik style was the anti-thesis of this and a betrayal of anarchism

Being democratically organised neo-anarchism is in a position to have things like an economic policy. The general outline is to completely abandon money and all forms of currency instead there would be a gift based economy and workers would own the means of production

This is the kind of society Jesus was talking about so the powers that be are going to look pretty silly when they start doing un-christian things while we are creating a spiritual society

Stand by for future updates from the anarcho-spiritual society commitee

I call myself an anarchist too, but I don't think that a gift based economy is realistic at all. They are only doable at very small scales (communities of no more than 100 people). Any community bigger than that, you are going to need money.

I'm an anarchist but I don't support the idea of "society as a collective whole." I don't want someone imposing their ideas on how to live on me, and I don't want to impose my ideas on someone else. So the "collective whole" idea bugs me quite a bit. I'm more interested in loose associations for mutual benefit.

There is a lot of confusion related to words. A mutual credit clearing system can be viewed as a "gift economy", it's only that you keep track of the values of the gifts, and have limits on how large values any member are allowed to collect. Like a credit limit.

Look at www.bartercard.com for a live, working gift economy!
