My Creative Writing Site

Unread postby julianj » Sun 14 May 2006, 12:15:39

Hi All,

I have put up a site which has some of my creative writing on it, that is, short stories, and humourous writing (some of which premiered on your very own Peakoil.com).

Julian Jackson's Creative Writing Site

What finally spurred me to put up this site was getting what I thought was a New York Literary Agent: New York Literary Agency. They seemed convincing. But the NY address apparently is a maildrop for they hang out in Boca Raton, that well-known publishing centre.

THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I am ashamed to say I was nearly taken in by them. Google their name and you will see they are a front for making authors pay for endless "editing" of their work.
The other place that believes completely in the right to keep and bear arms, particularly to use against foreign invaders and tyrants is: Afghanistan.

How about the scam of all these people putting their kids through expensive universities to study "fine arts". The kids do some silly "art" and party mostly.

The point of a literary agent is to sell an author's work. NYLA and its multifarious spinoffs, apparently haven't sold anything much and charge lots of money to their "authors". Proper literary agents don't do this.

PMS: I'd regard someone who "partied" their way through an arts degree a more worthwhile member of society than someone who did an MBA and joined Enron (or fill in your corporation of choice here.................)

Sure, Julian. It's cool so long as it doesn't bankrupt mom and dad and leave the "artist" in a pile of student loans.

Why don't you enter writing contests ? If you win one you may be contacted by a legit agent .Or...at B&N there are paperbacks on where to submit works for publishing (& money).

Thanks Annaliese, I might well do that.

PMC: here in the UK, whatever course you do you end up in a pile of student loans. I'm glad I did my degree before that system was instituted.

I did see your recent potato efforts. One day, if I ever figure out digital cameras, I will post some pics of my own bucket gardening efforts.

Keep writing. Someday I will be brave enough to post some of my stories.
