Moving out of the country

Unread postby Stratovarius » Fri 24 Nov 2006, 18:27:12

I was considering the thought of moving to another country. I just found out about PO and I'm just convering all my bases here. Some questions...

Should I stay in America (Texas)?

How do you start a new life in another country?

What's a good country to move to for the coming PO times?

How do you exactly get to that country?

I have no idea about other cultures or what moving to another country even involves. As for my future plans, for a long time I wanted to be a physics major (considering engineering) and that's a long-term investment; I'll be poor and in school until my late 20s perhaps. I'm 15 so that's 10+ years.

Texas may be running low on oil, but with higher prices to come, there may well be a viable drilling and extaction business remaining for a long time. One good thing you can pick up in Texas is an education in petroleum engineering. Then you could move on later to more abundant locations. Petroleum expersts wil make even more money the scarcer it gets.

For peak oil, maybe Texas is not such a bad place to be. It also has coal. And, you have a relatively mild winter there in most parts, you can survice without having to use a lot of fuel. It may suck in the summer heat without air conditioning, but likely your ancestors survived that well enough. You may end up proud to be tougher than the generation that came before you, something that has not been said for a while.

And to save motor fuel, you can get around on a scooter, most all of the year. As long as you don't get sideswiped by angry SUV's along the highway.

If you don't understand what moving out of the country involves then you should not even be thinking about it.

If you insist on leaving America then stay away from the third world. They are already overpopulated hell-holes and will become outright hell on earth post peak. Probably the best bet is New Zealand. They are an english speaking first world country, have very low population outside of the two major cities, and are isolated from the rest of the world. They also have good inexpensive Universities so you don't have wait until you finished your degree before you move out there.

Unless you intend to apply for the job of village idiot in some remote country I suggest you want to be where you feel at home when the shit hits the fan.

If all hell is breaking loose do you seriously want to be in a place where you normally don't understand what is going on?

Well at 15 you are not going to have to worry about those things yet.

Where you are at is one of the best places in America. I know things are getting costly but still, the Hill country is hard to beat.

Like you said you are just finding out about things. Since you will have to live with your decision, establish a well thought out criteria for what is important for YOU-not me or anyone else. I think you will you have been blessed with where you are at.

Can I suggest GWBush be extradited back to Texass to meet his Alamo.
