Been looking forward for this movie. The ironic part is, since it'll be a limited release initially, is that I'll probably end up driving 50 miles to see it!

But with the recent sell offs and profit taking, etc, it would have been better if this movie came out when gas was over $3 a gallon.

I noticed a phrase, "It's like an atm machine was plopped right in front of backyard."

I'm wondering (and excited) if it is a metaphor similar to what Rep. Bartlett uses about oil and its energy density...

I'll probably be driving 50+ miles to see it (or I'll be pirating it... either or... I want to drag some friends to this though - and since it'll probably be out at christmas break, I'll decide to drag a few friends I haven't seen for awhile to this movie...).

So, I'll be car-pooling!

Maybe it is a referance to the petrodollar subsidy that Americans receive just because the dollar is the oil currency.

This site says the movie is due to be released in December.

Syriana- trailer looks like it's a Peak Oil Movie

Unread postby dhfenton » Thu 10 Nov 2005, 08:29:25

I just saw the trailer for the new movie; Syriana. The dialog concerns $20 gas at the pump, the world running out of oil, and 90% of that oil is in the Middle East. It appears to be a intrigue, thriller type of movie. It has major stars in Matt Damon, and others. It certainly appears that peak oil is going to get some major attention. The movie opens Dec. 9th. It's going to be interesting to see what its content is all about.

Yeah there's been a couple threads about it. Part of this movie was filmed at a hotel near where I work. A couple of my co-workers are extras in it, it'll be neat to see them in a major picture like this.

Watch the trailer...a PO movie for sure!

I wonder if Clooney is a POiler? I've read he doesn't want kids...

Thank God, most self-hating white liberals aren't breeding. This group is the most parasitic of any in America. I think their birth rate has hit 1.1 or close to it, one of the lowest in the world.

I won't judge Clooney, because i don't know him. Making a statement like that (not having kids), however, is pretty gutsy! And doesn't go over well with a lot of the ladies!

I'll be seeing the movie, thats for sure!

If Clooney is a POer, my respect for him will go up.

This movie sounds good, I wonder how it finishes though.

I'm told it's already on the P2P networks, though I don't know anyone who's watched it yet.

Some interesting quotes from Ebert and Roeper on Syriana (both gave enthusiastic thumbs up):

Roeper: "This is the best film I have seen this year."

Ebert: "The bottom line is, there's not enough oil and we all want it and there's gonna be big trouble real soon....somehow..."

Roeper: "Absolutely and in this kind of world at some point its every man or woman for themselves"

I think they are both closet peak oilers.

I like the CIA agent Bob Baer that the movie is based on he bashed both Bush Sr. and Clinton for not taking out Sadam when they could.

There was coup d'etat in place but Clinton would not back up the plan with support after the fact and because of that the Kurds were slaughtered and the rest is history.

Hopefuly it is a good movie and if it just explains how precious oil really is it will be a great movie.

yeah, but will it have a hollywood ending? you know, where the good guys (US) are victorious in the end and we ride off in our hummers into the sunset to live happily ever after.

Doubtful Clooney is far too liberal and hates GWB with a passion. My bet is that it will end in a jaded non-conclusive kind of way with the hero of the story being left out to dry. And the sinister power brokers will end up keep on doing what they do.

That is what happened to Bob Baer at least he stuck his neck out only to get it chopped off by the likes of Bill Clinton and George Bush senior.
