Movie: "I Am Legend"

Unread postby mmasters » Mon 02 Jul 2007, 20:32:46

I had posted about this in another thread and thought it was worth of a thread of it's own. Check out the trailer for this film

Alternatively: link

Now that's some doomer Expletive deleted. ! The preview scared most everyone when I saw it in the theatre. I think a good question is why is a film like this being brought out. Is it just to scare people and psychologically prepare them for future disaster? Is it disinformation, to make people feel unsafe about manhattan because manhattan will be safe in the future? Is it to prepare us for end times, perhaps? The release date is almost exactly 5 years before the date many prophecize it will all end: 12/21/2012

It looked pretty good. But now that I learned it's a zombie movie, I might see it on cable in a couple of years.

I'm afraid the most realistic movie that we're going to get about the future after PO is going to be a slideshow by Al Gore...*sigh*.

Hey Mekrob, the truth doesn't sell. You have to feed people lies and zombies in order to keep them interested.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Richard Matheson wrote a novel called 'I am Legend'.

In the 60s, it was made into a movie with Vincent Price called "The Last Man on Earth".

In the 70s, it was made into a movie with Charlton Heston called "The Omega Man".

Now it just looks like they are updating it and giving it the original title name.

I like the dog with Will Smith's character, though. That's a new twist on the story.

Looks like an interesting movie - with some foreshadowing of the future to come.

They certainly did their homework... check out the price of gas on the sign: regular is 663.9/gal.

I'm all booked for my reading time. What's the novel about? Any clues on the movie's plot?

I Am Legend is more of a vampire story than a zombie story. The bad guys remain intelligent, but have to avoid the daylight.

Interested, and harmlessly entertained.

A truly realistic ultra-doomer scenario about a worst-case, end-of-the-oil age, climate-change-devastation cataclysm would be way too scary. The movie-going masses don't want to see that. Give them a highly unlikely disease tale instead.

Well, that ruined the film for me.

If gas is priced that highly, why price in the extra $0.9?

I mean significant figures at that price are to the nearest dollar, not dime!

Just not believeable, just not believeable...

I laughed when they informed us that "THE LAST MAN ON EARTH..." "IS NOT ALONE..." If he's the last man on Earth, isn't he alone by definition?

"Good Will Smith SF Film" is a bit of an oxymoron. Hope they write the zombies out of the screenplay somehow. How are you going to top Omega Man? I mean, a sexy zombie with a 'fro? Whose pack is led by Anthony Zerbi? Don't even try!
