Jan 10, 2010
Motiva Enterprises LLC restarted a crude unit over the weekend at its Port Arthur, Texas, refinery and boosted rates on a fluid catalytic cracker after a crane accident Jan. 4 forced the shutdown of the main production equipment, according to two people familiar with refinery operations.
The refinery plans to restart a second crude unit and six hydrotreaters as early as Jan. 12 and to operate at normal rates by Jan. 15, said the people, who declined to be identified because they aren’t authorized to speak for the plant.
Motiva restarted the 75,000-barrel-day crude unit and increased rates on the catalytic cracker to 85,000 barrels a day from 70,000 barrels last week, the people said. The hydrotreaters and the largest crude unit, with a capacity of 195,000 barrels a day, will be restarted by late Jan. 13 or early Jan. 14, the people said.
... The Port Arthur plant can process 300,000 barrels a day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The refinery produces gasoline, aviation fuel, diesel, industrial fuel oil and petrochemical feedstocks, according to a Motiva website. ...
