Math Problem -- Grid Possibilities -- (TOUGH)

Unread postby jasonraymondson » Sun 04 Nov 2007, 02:13:45

Here is a tough math problem I have been working on for the last 40 minutes and I finally solved it. I am pretty stupid at math, so I thought I would see how many others on here can solve it.

Let me know it is too tough and I will post the solution. And you will probably kick yourself in the head when you see how truly easy it is.

it's as easy as 1+2
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

2^10+2^9+2^8+2^7+1

whatever that is.
So, why you want to figure this out?

There is only one correct path all other paths are wrong And if you can't figure it out you can never be a 33 degree brick layer.

NOPE

I already figured it out, I just did it for fun. I like these kind of problems

Sort of like if you have 6 teams what are all of the possibilities of each team placing 1st 2nd and 3rd

While looking for Pascal's triangle I found this nice animated Quincunx.

Whoops, 11 choose 4 is without replacement but we need to allow replacement.

Okay, 11 choose 4 times factorial 4. So:

330 times 24 = 7 920

also wrong but you are on the right path using factorials

I wrote a little C program to do it by brute force and I also get 1001. Do you have an algebraic solution?

Yes, but I am waiting on PMS and a few of the other experts to take a crack at it. Alot of people have looked at it, but have ran away scared.
