$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Newfie', 'A')n update: the magnetic field is moving so fast they had to release an unscheduled update.

It wouldn't surprise me if they link this issue with the fact that the sun going into an extreme solar minimum event, the sun's magnetic field has a direct influence on the Earths magnetic field. If the sun's field is unstable then the Earth's would be expected to be less stable than usual.

Looking at actual science sites (vs. speculation sites that say things like such changes cause more volcanoes), the main thing I get is that scientists hope to LEARN a lot about how such changes impact the earth's climate, and to improve their climate models with it. Not that science (much less speculation) has any clear idea of what will happen to the weather , or even when the effects of the next (predicted) "grand" solar minimum will occur.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

Kind of hard for me to see a connection between the magnetic fields and climate.

AIUI the main claimed effect is from the solar wind, which causes the Auroras at the poles moving closer to the equator. The theory being Auroras are caused by charged particles of the solar wind impacting the upper atmosphere which has an ionizing effect. Additionally ionized gasses tend to result in more clouds and perhaps more precipitation as the charged particles nucleate water droplets to form around them. More clouds means less solar energy reaching the surface means cooling effect, if the theory is correct and actually works as predicted.

At a glance when I read some of the (layman's level) articles at science sites, the liklihood of more cloud formation was the obvious climate impact. Again, the climate scientists hope to LEARN a lot over the next cycle. (Maybe there are lots of impacts, maybe not.)

Almost every prediction (even from scientists, making lots of assumptions) I had noticed re the nature of specifics about the outer solar system moons was very wrong vs. what the various NASA probes showed us. Intuition is a TERRIBLE substitute for science, as the beliefs of AGW deniers, flat earthers, evolution deniers, anti-vaccine folks, anti-GMO folks (the information-free variety), etc. demonstrate.
