Anyway, we will probably have far fewer resources to deal with this problem then than we do now. What's everybody's opinion?

Well, I suggest we start the party now, hopefully we wont ever wake up. Get so pissing drunk we cant stand up.

LOL. Man, talk about a doomerists era. Surely things cant be as bad as they seem, but yet, every time I look around, its getting worse. Ah man, this is gunna be one hell of a ride. If you dont get killed by a starving freak, and you survive the glacial melts and denver being on the Pacific coast now, and you manage to hide yourself away and raise a farm and gain a sense of stability, a damn asteroid has to come and end it all. We musta really pissed off God or someone.

Oh well. good to know anyways.

I'll be 59 by then. I'm sure life will be so miserable I won't give a flying rat's ass anyhow. Bring on the rock!

Since we are all doomed already, according to occams razor the asteroid is an unnessecary additional entity introduced into the whole scheme. It should thus be declared unscientific and ignored.

Yea, lets just ignore it, it'll go away.

Come to think of it, maybe if we ignore all the problems, they will go away. 8)

"Asteroid 99942 Apophis – first labeled as 2004 MN4 -- is estimated to be roughly 1,000 feet (320 meters) in diameter. Were it to strike Earth, it would not set off global havoc but would generate significant local or regional damage, experts say."

Sounds like nerds trying to drum up some funding for their fave pet project :)

I don't think there is anything to worry about. Better have the money spent on other infrastructure.

Sorry if this is a doomer's buzzkill, but $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')n impact is still possible on April 13, 2036, keeping the asteroid at level 1 on the Torino impact hazard scale. As of June 2006, this corresponds to an impact probability of 1 in 38,000.

I'm sure by 2020 we won't have the desire nor the ability to maintain our, by then, space tracking systems. By 2036, civilization will have dropped so far and lost so much information, the asteroid will take us completely by surprise, if it hits us, which I doubt...

Look on the bright side: If a monster asteroid hits the earth, it'll kick up so much dust, we might be able to counter global warming! :-D

Works for me. I'm sick and tired worrying about the future. Whatever will happen is out of my control anyway. Peak Oil, Singularity, Super Volcano, Hyper Tsunami, Asteroid - who gives a dime? Nothing I can do to avoid it.

Survival strategy? Ok I bought some land and hope it will feed my family.

Anything else? Yes, lets party 'till its over! Enjoy life, make money as long as you can and spend it on all the nice little things our western lifestyle is offering. Having fun and be happy is the purpose of life!

Party on!

Don't forget Hypercanes and that geologists say that the southern San Andreas Fault is set to blow at any minute in a huge way. Party on, Garth. (funny thread)

What about a thread with the subject:

the 100 worse doomer scenarios?

or 100 reasons why we are doomed

or so ....

Will we get 100 possible catastrophes, which will result in a totalled planet?

if you include 'black swans' (blowing ourselves up in some techno-accident), and seperate them out individually I'm sure you could easily come up with 100.
