I Walk The Line

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Tue 28 Mar 2006, 02:28:39

Saw the film about Johnny Cash. I posted something similar about Ray Charles. America and music, America and drugs. There is no getting around it, drugs are where it's at, and then we die. There is something behind this, but I don't know what it is. Pretty good movie. The cops are always busting these artists while society is saying keep it up.

Its like Steven King. Until his wife and family made him face his abuse of alcohol etc. he was one of the most profilic horror writers. Now? To me his work just doesn't seem to have the same edge. I read his book ... On Writing, and he said he was facing his demons in his own work.

They do walk a very fine line don't they? And what a price to pay.

Speaking of drugs and movies, anybody see Frank Miller's Sin City? An amazing blend of rabid insanity and cool beauty. Quentin Tarantino is listed as a "guest director" whatever that means. These guys have got to be using in a big way to make such a perverse monstrosity of a movie. But gorgeous with an amazing cast. I don't know whether to recommend it or even if I liked it but it sure is a unique flick.

Cast: Bruce Willis, Rutger Hauer, Michael Madsen, Benicio Del Toro, Elija Wood (who says nothing, but does like to eat people, not at all like our beloved Frodo), and quite a few others. Rutger Hauer plays a malevolent Cardinal of the Church, an astonishing performance. I always did like that guy on the silver screen.

You forgot the Briton Clive Owen. Also known as Dr. Larry in the excellent movie 'Closer'. I've always thought that Natalie Portman was a bimbo like Carmen Electra or Pam Anderson or something, but I now know she's a first class actress after seing that one!

Too bad Pat Boone was rejected as the cross-dressing ice cream man Sister Ray in Sin City. Larry Hagman wasn't that convincing after all...

There's a Sin City II in the making. Release date somewhere in 2007. We just have to wait for it like we wait for Kill Bill III...

I agree with your assessment, except I think I tend toward liking it.

BTW, how can there be a Kill Bill III? Bill died, in a weird way to be sure, but dead as can be. Also, the ending of Sin City was incomprehensibly disgusting.

Don't know about Kill Bill, but I read somewhere that Sin City II is a prequel.

I forgot to mention Mickey Rourke. He was the central character of the movie. I got a kick out of his performance under all that makeup. That bit when he was executed in the electric chair was funny: they zapped him once and he didn't die and said "is that the best you can do you pansies?" So Mickey could come back in a prequel. I'd watch it, with reluctant fascination, something like seeing a car wreck I guess.

What you did not get the forshadowing of "he's not really dead" when he faked dead for his kid...then for the mother?

One touch heart implosion yah right...and if he was not dead how would she know without checking him...also it was painfuly dramatic even for a movie...just a touch exagerated.

As I said when he "died"...BILL LIVES :!: (at least in the coming script)

Look at poor Whitney Houston. I guess it's hard to get oneself "up" to performing and drugs will give the needed lift. Then the drugs take over. You can see how bad off she's become over at drudgereport.com. The photo is protected or I would have posted it here.

Thanks, schwein. She used to look so gorgeous. My son wants to be a musician/celebrity. Little does he know the toll it takes. I told him that there are 30,000 bands in this country and only a few will ever make it. He tells me that I won't have to work anymore when he's famous. *sigh*

Well you could sit on your arse all day in front of your 50 inch plasma TV and zap if he made it. Think about it! Oprah and TV-shop all day long... A crack addicted son is a small price to pay for that. I mean didn't you change his diapers and take him to Burgerking when he was a kid? I bet there were a couple of trips to Disneyland (popcorn and tacos included) as well!

It's payback time now PMS!

Heaven forbid he should be a crack addict! Besides, my gig at the restaraunt is something that I like a lot. I like the people there and would miss them if I was reduced to watching Oprah. Sometimes I even like teaching. You, on the other hand, sheesh, sounds wretched, your job!
