I AM So Pathetic

Unread postby duke3522 » Sun 19 Feb 2006, 18:12:32

I am so pathetic. I come on here and complaining about my over consuming, unaware, US brethren, and I am sitting here thinking just how much I MISS FOOTBALL!!! :(

No more NFL until next September!! Football was my excuse for drinking beer and doing absolutely nothing on Sundays. I also miss my brother and friends coming over to watch the games.

Yes, I know, the NFL is just a circus to keep the rabble happy and in line. Well if they want me to be happy and in line more than 5 months a years give me some more football.

Funny coming from a guy who suffered a horrible injury (broken back) playing football. But, I must admit I really enjoyed playing. I enjoyed the teamwork and companionship of the other players. But most of all I enjoyed kicking low life running backs in the ass. Nothing quit like getting a clean driving tackle on a quarterback when he doesn’t see you coming up from behind. Or trying to knock the head off an offensive lineman with a well placed forearm.

GO COLTS!!!

GO BEARS!!!

What's wrong with football? I enjoy a lot of stupid things, like making a living (I work in the entertainment biz).

Thanks SPG,

Always nice to have the blessings of PO’s newest Goddess.

But I am not quit ready for a 12 step yet. Now if I would have had a bet down on the Pro Bowl on the other hand….

You can use similar skills to chop firewood with your friends and brothers, or build a public pea patch. Or you can raid neighbouring villages, loot and pillage and steal their women. There is life after football.

Yep, 1985 was my year. But it was good to see one of the old school teams win. The Steelers Super Bowl victory did bring back a lot of good memories from the Terry Bradshaw, Steel Curtin days. Back in the days before ’roids and such. And it was good to see the Bus go out with a win.

As for me, Da Bears will always be my team. When I was a kid I wrote Dick Butkis a letter and he wrote me back and sent me two autographed pics. Love them Bears.

And the poor Colts. After the James Dungy tragedy they had no chance of maintaining their intensity. And NFL football is all about intensity.

It could be worse. Imagine being transplanted to a place where there are 3 stadiums in town:
Rugby ?
Field Hockey??
Cricket??? WTF?

So I don't waste any time watching sports anymore, just ride my bike, swim, go hiking etc

Hey PMS,

If the Super Bowl had been rigged Seatle would have been the winner of choice because the vast majority of the money bet on the Super Bowl was on the Steelers. Vegas had to keep raising the line to get any action on seattle at all.

And let me tell you, if the NFL was going to rig a game it would have been the Colts-Steelers. Payton in the Super Bowl would mean much bigger ratings.

JMHO

I heard there was major action in Vegas for the Steelers to not make the spread. An article in the sports page of the San Diego Union said that Vegas bookies made huge profits on the outcome. The ref calls were so bad, sorry, I think the game was influenced by organized crime or something. You hear that quote from Holmgren about the refs after the game. Sums it up nice.

Hey PMS,

Well the guy I heard on the Jim Rome show the boss at one of the major sports books in Vegas. He said they started the line at 3.5 and got no action on Seattle at all. So they ended up raising the line twice, to 4.5, at the time the guy was on the show. If someone else can show us some numbers it would be greatly apperciated.

I have seen the game broken down several times, and I just don't see were the fix came in. Of all the calls folks are questioning, only the rothlensburger TD may have been a truely bad call.

As for Holmgren. Sour Grapes.

Unfortunately, Duke, I was working at the restaraunt on the day of the game. I saw a little bit of it because we had it on the tube, but mostly I listened on the radio. Wasn't there a play in which offensive pass interference was called that brought the ball back from the one yard line to the 35, denying a probable TD for Seattle? The guys calling it on the radio thought it was a bogus call. That one call and a couple others, including the one you mention, made all the difference. Combine that with some other things and it sure seems like the game was fixed. These days, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was. Corruption is everywhere.

Hi PMS,

I know just the call your talking about. The Seattle receiver pushed off just enough to “Cause separation” between him and the defender, and that is all it takes to draw a flag. And it didn’t help that he did it right in front of a ref. Ron Jawarski says it was a very close but good call.

Yes I think there is corruption everywhere, and yes the calls went the Steelers way. But Seattle had a chance there in the first half to really put it to the Steelers. But bad play calling, missed field goals, bad clock management, and a very badly timed holding call did in the Seahawks.

Just My Two Cents

Duke of Indiana

BTW A very enjoyable debate PMS. Thank You

It's an interesting notion, don't you think, that a Super Bowl could be rigged. Have you heard any talk of it on Rome's show or elsewhere? BTW, I did get to see alot of the Chargers/Colts game where our San Diego guys broke the Colts streak. I heard some say that Pittsburg used the same game plan to get past them in the playoffs. That must have been a bummer for you. Do you like baseball? It's coming right up. Enjoy it while it lasts. Pro sports may have a hard time of it when fuel prices go sky high.

Hey PMS,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you . There is some talk out of Seattle that the Super Bowl fix was in. Mostly sour grapes in my opinion. Not by the NFL anyway.

The NFL is smart enough to know that a big part of the reason their sport is so popular is because of all the betting on the games. And if it were to ever get out that the NFL rigged a game all hell would break loose.

As for baseball, I use to be a huge fan, but I have never really gotten back into it since the strike in 1994. Here I suffer as well as being a die hard Cubs fan. And my American league favorite, the BoSox, made me a loser until recently.

I am a BoSox fan because back in 1975 I spent most of the summer in Boston and spent as much time at Fenway as I could. I also saw the Reds play at Riverfront that year. That was a great year. I got to see Rose, Bench, Rice, and many more HOFers that year.

But steroids have really turned me off to baseball, and I keep hoping that something happens so that Barry Bonds does not break Ruth’s or Aaron’s Home Run numbers.

I know, kind of a contradiction that I watch the NFL where steroids are used all the time,

I'm not convinced it's sour grapes, but what the heck, would be nice to know who really brought down the WTC towers too if it wasn't a bunch of terrorists who could barely fly anything. But we already have mucho threads for that, don't we. 8)
