$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dagod1', 'H')ow about instead of becoming a feudal lord maybe becoming a great leader or good king, ya know feeding the hungry.

Are you guys watching the looting going on, this is what we can expect in major cities from thugs. I hope you can handle that, they will do the same to your house as a group. The will bust in and take what they want.
Trust me it will happen. These types won't last long and will hopefully die of starvation. And I am not talking about people stealing food.

A great leader is more than someone who can provide food.

You need to have a plan and a vision of what sort of community you hope to lead. Your first post indicated a form of indentured servitude from which I belive you would quickly be replaced.

If the SHTF then I honestly believe you can kiss any notion of property rights goodbye.

I believe the strongest communities will be ones where every individual is motivated to protect their community and what they have worked for, farms, dams and other buildings.

1. These folks are going to live very short and painful lives- especially wherever folks own shotguns.

2. Great leaders really don't come off as leaders. Don't try to become a king. My plan is just to be a member of a community, come up with ideas, work on them, and if people like my idea, invite them to help me.

I would argue that the strongest communities will be islands that won't find themselves underwater once peak oil hits. To be honest, if you're living on, say one of the neighboring islands of Washington Island in Lake Michigan, you might not find out for months once TSHTF. And then, you'll just go back to the way things were back in the '30s; raise your own food, let wind replace the coal or oil you burn for electricity, and just be completely oblivious to what's happening on shore.

And to be honest, I think that Hurricane Katrina just did more damage to the states of Mississippi and Louisiana than Peak Oil might do to them, and people down there are getting by with only a little looting so far. Admittedly, when peak oil happens to the world, it won't be like people from neighboring states will be able to come in and help rebuild.

I'd suggest watching the six month Katrina recovery as an indication of the 95th percentile worst case for Peak Oil.
