Hey Tyler!!! You owe me $50 !!!

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tyler_JC', 'W')ith around 200 trading days left, oil prices must rise at least 45 cents per day from now on in order to hit $200/barrel by 2009.

Any pull back means that oil prices must rise by a little bit more each day in order to hit $200.

Between January 2002 and January 2008, oil prices in dollar terms rose by about 500%.

That's a 30% annual increase.

Even if we continue that trend this year (unlikely given a global slowdown), we would hit $140 a barrel by December.

The past 2 months have seen a big run up in prices but even at that pace, it would still be difficult to hit $200 a barrel.

I've played with the math and I just don't think it's a likely event.

Ummmm...400% increase in days...

Yeah Tyler - you are a real math wiz...

OK, what are the odds of a sudden and massive drop in oil production?

You see an invasion/attack against Iran on the horizon, I don't.

That's the dividing line between gradual price increase and massive spike.

If Bush does decide to attack Iran, we might see $200 a barrel oil. Otherwise, it's hard to think of a scenario that would lead to those kinds of prices.

Revolution in Saudi Arabia comes to mind, so does an embargo by Venezuela.

But neither of those scenarios has a high probability, in my opinion.

Well Tyler...

Boatloads of posts support the idea that war with Iran is not so far out of the realm of possibility to not occur...

I believe 911 was an inside job that was executed to begin the the Oil Grab Wars (OGW)...

So if on 9.11.00 someone said that within a year the world trade centers would be reduced to dust...what would you think?

We are dealing with Neo Cons...religious zealots...that lie...and keep the world in a perpetual state of war...

My belief is that this group of neocons is just not gonna give the game ball back after the game in November without a run at world domination.

You think the PA I and II, the MCA, PC, Directive 51, and the Real ID Card are all just part and parcel to our "freedom"...

Oh wait - you do - YOU believe enslaving the population is common sense...

Sorry - my bad...I will go back to sleep now.

Or massive devaluation of the dollar and no oil crisis.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('zzzpeakoil', 'I') agree with Nicholai. I like this forum overall but some of you have
become fanatics about your "doom". When oil barely reaches to
100$ and some of you predict that it will go to 1000$ in just one
year, that is fanaticism and stupidity alike.
It's true that peoples time tables can turn out to be too fast, that kind
of thing is hard to know for sure. But look at it this way, 10 years ago
when oil dipped down to around $10 - $15 per barrel and someone said in
10 years it would be over $100, that would have been crazy talk.

Now here we are around $110 per barrel and $1000 per barrel oil
sounds about as reasonable as $100 per barrel oil seemed back then,
but here we are. Sometimes peoples timing is off, but the direction
of these trends is holding up pretty well.

Anyway, I say let people rant and place bets. And ya know, if you
don't believe roccman, bet against him! But be careful, I think he
takes his payment adjusted for inflation, so try not to strain yourself
pushing that wheelbarrow!

Wasn't too long ago oil was in the high 80s. Things in early '08 are moving fast and picking up speed. A lot of things all at the same time. You've got Helicopter Ben taking crash courses in hedge funds, banks teetering on the edge, famine on the horizon. Anything can happen this year.

Oh why not, I think the hall of flames is a great tradition of
peakoil.com. Some sites moderate away angry posts, repressing
peoples discontent, here we loudly and proudly express ourselves!

Anyway, it's entertaining!

Yeah, if it's like this now just imagine what it's gonna be like in 2012! Personally I think things are really going to take off and accelerate after 2009.
